Melda Update!

9.00b2 update is now available and fixes several problems that leaked to 9.00b1.

http://www.meldaproduction.com/download.php

I have not looked at the fixes yet. It does appear to be a beta. Changes here:

This is pretty major. I'm a chicken, so I'll wait until the "b" comes off the version number before I update my most important plugins. But early reports are that this is a really good update - improved performance and improved UIs! Plus an improved installer that'll make it easier for those of us with many Melda plugs to update them.

Also, some interesting enhancements to my favorite Melda plugs, including MSpectralDynamics, MDynamicEQ, MAutoVolume and MMultiAnalyzer. I'm looking forward to this update.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Yeah, I'm a chicken also...

I'm not doing a lot with the laptop right now so I may get a good image and go for the 9.00b2 install. I really would like to see how the new installer handles things plus the improved UI's might increase my usage of some of the plugins.

When I lose my feathers I'll post back with some observations.

I installed. I have the Mastering Bundle and Wobbler.

It's got some nice updates.

I'll post back if anything is buggy enough to interrupt me.

There are nice enhancements to the installer.

Be careful with the installer. I now have all of them installed. That sucks. I hate the multiinstaller.

? What was the problem, KiteKrazy? It was easy for me. I chose de-select all. Then on the right I selected the Mastering Plugins group followed by the individual MWobbler plugin I have. Then clicked next.

What was the tripping point for you?

There was some discussion on the Melda forum about confusion when selecting./de-selecting products in the installer. Apparently, a black square means it's selected, which many will find counter-intuitive. I haven't used the new installer yet, so that's just what I've read.

I started by clicking de-select all. This made it obvious. I will say that initially I didn't know how to select or not select. It started with everything selected.

First step should be de-select all then click to select what you want.

The installer selects all of them by default first opening.

I don't own the Total Bundle just 16 separate plugins from different bundles.

- So if I select only the Plugs I have licenses for will they remain licensed or does the Beta plugs time out in 15 days?

- Also, I assume the Beta will replace the 8.10 versions?

Yes, it replaces the older versions unless you install in a different location.

I didn't have to re-enter my license.

Reverified that the new installer is way bigger than the past, and will dump anything Melda makes onto your system. Radical departure from previous installation packages.

Deselecting everything and choosing the free bundle works okay, if you are a leech like me and riding on the free stuff. Otherwise, let the flood gates open...

Love the New installer! It saved me a bunch of time!! Great Job Vojtech!!!

The UI's are looking good also but I did encounter a few quirks while setting them up. I can already tell that I will be getting much more use out of these plugs.

I'm really not a fan of those type of installers.  i get that it is a foot in the door, but to me it is actually less useful.  The free bundle alone creates curiosity about the higher end products.  Encouraging me to install trial versions right from the start kills my time limit for all the trials at once since there is no way i am going to give a serious try to so many things at once.

I'm generally not a fan, either. But this one will be a nice convenience for me because I have many Melda products and updates are frequent. Ideally, customers would be given a choice between all-at-once and individual installers, but nobody's ever gone to that trouble, AFAIK.

I'm just guessing here, but there may be another reason for implementing this installation method. I'm thinking that Vojtech may have pulled common code out of the plugins and moved it into a shared runtime library. This would substantially reduce each plugin's size, and would make it easier to implement his new chainer Mxxx (still in beta). Just a guess. At least, that's what I would have done.

He's done exactly that. The installer for the total, bundle is now only about one third the size of version 8.1

There are 2 library files installed in the C:/ root directory totalling about 50 MB with the remaining 60 MB being taken up with about 70 plugins.. None are very big at all and take very little processor. Even for processors with look ahead functions.

Lots to look at and play with here. I think. Need a few weeks locked away with this bundle. Wooppee

Smooth enough except for not paying attention to the install options on the right side the first time around. Everything installed and that is not something I wanted. I cleaned that up on a second attempt (after cleaning the melda folders) by first clicking the deselect all button. Next I selected the free bundle button and then the individual plugs I have licenses for...  I like the installer just fine now.

Installed using new installer. It all worked out correctly. I have the Free Bundle upgrade, the Creative Bundle, and two other plugs. All installed correctly and had no issues so far. The installation retained all my settings (that I could tell so far) and did not have to reauthorize with license.

Re: Melda Update! 2015/04/13 12:55:45 (permalink)
OK, you guys convinced me to take a chance and install the 9.0 beta.

The download was a whopping 112 MB, quite large compared to most effects updates that are typically only 1-5 MB. However, it's still smaller than the 150 MB I usually download when Melda has an update. (It would be a greater advantage if I kept the free pack up-to-date, but I don't.)

Installation was not difficult, but it could be friendlier.

For example, it would be nice if the installer, instead of automatically selecting "ALL", would check to see what's already installed and just select those products by default. There are already shortcuts for selecting bundles, he could add one that says "Currently Installed". I still have to stop and think "now which ones do I have again?"

Also, the new installer did not preselect my previous plugin path, which would have resulted in duplicates had I not noticed. It put in "\program files\vstplugins\meldaproduction" as the default, when the old installer would have remembered that I use \program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\meldaproduction".

I ran a re-scan. Although that's not usually necessary for Melda stuff, I always do it anyway. I then brought up an existing project that had several Melda plugins in it. They all came up fine and remembered their previous settings, which was a relief.

Nice enhancement to MAutoDynamicEQ, adding attack/release/threshold to the expanded "Bands" section. I also noticed a CPU Benchmark feature under Settings - that's new, I think.

At 110MB it is a lot smaller than the 534 MB the previous MTotal 32+64bit installers were. What I is miss in the installer is the ability to install different plug-in formats by platform. Even without that option the total install is smaller than before.

BTW, even though the new installer doesn't pick up settings from the previous installer, you only have to enter them once, as subsequent invocations do remember the previous selections and paths. Just be careful the first time you run it, and the next time you update it should be a quick click-through process.

I'm noticing that if I have the UI's on two plugs open simultaneously that the one not in focus sometimes is just a solid color until I click on it. I know it's a Beta but just wondering if it is just on my end.

I did modify the Style and colors of the plugs and that does seem like a 'hit or miss' proposition.

I have not seen any reports about it on the K_R Melda forums.

Not seeing that here. Could be something specific to your graphics card. See if the problem goes away after disabling GPU acceleration and restarting SONAR. That'll be a helpful clue when you report it to Vojtech.

Well Bit, as usual, you were right on! Disabling the GPU acceleration fixed the issue and I can't make it happen now.

I will still let Vojtech know that issue and a couple other UI customization issues exist but I'm sure that stuff would be pretty low on the pole right now...

I agree with ya Bit about it could be a little more user friendly. I just thought I was nit picking. But if others are seeing it too then ya have to wonder.

I had to have my folder open with my licenses in it to remember which ones I needed to update!
