[Solved] Missing Hardware Controller / Surface options in Sonar Platinum Cambridge

Hi, I have recently replaced my failed C: Drive with a new SSD and decided to do a complete rebuild of my DAW rather than re-image. I let 3C download and install Sonar Platinum but am having trouble configuring Sonar to use the transport and other non-keyboard controls on my PCR-500.

The option to choose in all other versions of Sonar I have used since Sonar 7, is 'PCR-300' when adding my control surface, usually from a large list of options. However, in Preferences / Control Surfaces, the number of options in the add control surface dropdown box seems strangely truncated to only 5 options, ACT MIDI Controller, Cakewalk Generic Surface, Mackie C4, Mackie XT and Mackie Control. I am struggling to get my MIDI controller up and running here (apart from normal keyboard note triggering for my softsynths) and would appreciate any pointers.

Have you tried the little yellow plus sign in the top right-hand corner (on the same line as the 'import ACT data button).  That's how I found mine.  Thereafter Sonar remembers your options.  Sorry if this sounds obvious, but the OP didn't mention it.

Hi EezyP,

Yes, I have tried that, which is what I am saying, when I try to add the PCR, it does not appear in the drop down, despite the driver being seemingly successfully installed and the device communicating via MIDI for the keyboard input to my soft synths...I think I may uninstall the driver and try to reinstall...

Thanks for the reply

Unfortunately that didn't work. This is now becoming frustrating. Essentially, I need to see the 'Edirol-300' and associated properties setup in my dropdown list, it no longer appears, despite a fresh install of Cambridge and a fresh install of the correct 64-bit Windows driver for the PCR, which has worked in all my other installs prior to today. Any more suggestions gratefully accepted please...

Thanks Scook, unfortunately not. As my MIDI controller is an Edirol PCR as opposed to the later Cakewalk A-PRO.

I guess a different way of approaching this problem I have is:-

A:Find the location of the Control Surface profile files.
B: Obtain a copy of the the PCR-300 control surface profile file and insert it in the correct location so that I can select in Sonar.

Although why all the previously available control surface options should go missing on a rebuild is beyond me at this point. The only difference is that I have installed Cambridge build which was released over the duration of me rebuilding my DAW...

Any takers? I am so frustrated at not being able to use get my PCR-500 back up and running as a control surface.

I think SONAR Platinum 64 bit comes with fewer control surface plug-ins than earlier versions - do you have X2 or X3 you can install alongside?

If you have a backup of you previous installation, you can extract required DLLs from "Program Files/Cakewalk/Shared Surfaces". Take the version with correct number of bits ("Program Files" has 64bit on 64bit OS or 32bit on 32bit OS, "Pogram Files (x86)" has 32bit on 64bit OS).

In case you find it, you should register it manually in the command line:
for 32bit:
%windir%\SysWoW64\regsvr32.exe your.dll
for 64bit:
%windir%\System32\regsvr32.exe %windir%\System32\namedll.dll

And yes, SysWoW64 is "Windows 32-bit on Windows 64-bit" and System32 is for current (64!)bits. 32 in names are historical...

Thanks Mr KPerry, it worked ! You were absolutely correct, I reinstalled X3, using the advanced install option, I was able to unselect almost all of the options except the program file, there was a final option for ACT control surface definitions and that did the trick. On return to Sonar Platinum, 17 Controller / Surface options were offered, as opposed to the 5 in Platinum alone, and I was able to select Edirol PCR-300, configure the inmput and output MIDI ports, and Boom ! My PCR working with Sonar as designed. Thanks a bunch for that, it was an option that hadn't occurred to me at all.

Hope this helps anyone else in a similar and /or future scenario.
