It's on its way!!!
I have a thing for white guitars. When we saw KISS last November, I was telling my wife how Thayer's white LP would have made a much better Signature guitar than the silver one Epiphone had released in 2014. A few months later, they announced the 2015 signature - based on his white guitar. I thought I'd keep an eye on it, though I didn't really want to buy another Epiphone LP. Then I started shopping for Gibsons, and I stumbled upon the pre-2014 white Les Paul Studio. But before I could proceed any further it had vanished... I was going round and round in the process of finding that next guitar, keeping in mind that I may very well have to invest again in something completely different a few months from now and all, going from SG to LP and back again, then even browsing ESPs. My eyes were set on the Traditional Pro, but that was a nice chunk of cash to put on a single guitar. So this afternoon, after stumbling upon another LP Studio, my wife didn't take no chances... Mine should be here sometime next week - hopefully Wednesday.

I'm crossing my fingers that this will be a keeper - I don't really like to order guitars online, but w/ those pre-2015 guitars, it's often the only option. Fortunately, I now have access to a great tech, if anything needs special care.

I have a thing for white guitars, too - I have 4 of them. White LPs are real sharp looking ...and it's on my "hopefully someday" list.

Funnily enough, the guitar that first caused me to move away from Fender strat was a white Epiphone LP Junior that I bought before we flew to Europe and Russia. I didn't want to risk taking my precious guitar w/ me. I loved the simplicity of that guitar... It's sort of fitting that I finally get my white Gibson Les Paul...

Thanks. :) This picture isn't one of the exact guitar. Mine has a paler granadillo fretboard. I know some purists would go "no way" but as the guys in that Chapman review put it - whatever... :P Ebony would have been killer, but I can perfectly live w/ this one.

So closer to this... More importantly, no min-etune or any oddity. The only special feature is coil-splitting. I never use that on my Epi, but it doesn't hurt either.

I don't remember exactly which years it was, but for a while the white Studios came with an ebony fret board. I've been playing my Strat a lot lately as well. I have a bit of a rekindled love afair going with the Strat, again.

I like white guitars and basses, as well. I think they look better under stage lighting.

See, that's one of the reason I didn't feel 100% comfortable putting + $2000 on a guitar. Because I know I have to have the strat worked on, and it'll probably cost me a decent amount of money. I may also need something radically different, such as a Washburn Parallaxe or one of those ESPs. That's not to mention the acoustic I have yet to find. As much as a big Les Paul is the Holy Grail of guitars to me, I doubt that I can stick to one guitar for everything. My strat will probably get the Dave Murray upgrade, though I may also go for Hot Rails and/or Little 59.

As a matter of fact, one of the other options I had was the White Standard SG. I was looking for one of those - w/o the dreaded min-etune and that's how we found that LP Studio. Quite strange as, in my world, it's usually all black and a bit of red. But for guitars, white it is.

I'm pretty traditional with colors. I love the looks of a shiney Black LP. My 4003 Rick is Jet Black. The Strat is Black with a maple neck. Ice Tea or Vintage Sunburst is my second choice. I have not caught the opaque White bug yet....but love the looks of the Transparent White Blonde Strat

I don't know where it comes from... Maybe growing as a Metallica fan - James Hetfield had white Flying Vs and white Explorer. Though I can't say I've ever really wanted either a V or Explorer. Jake E. Lee had a white SG Jr - and he was one of the only young metal guys w/ an SG. He also had a very nice white Charvel, which I really liked. My biggest influence, Randy Rhoads, played a white LP - but it actually looked yellow. I don't know. Black or white I guess.

That's one option I was looking into for the strat for a while - that transparent-ish white. Oh that's another one - Jimi's Olympic White strat, the one he' used at Woodstock! That was the only strat colour I cared for. Black was it, but Olympic White was a close second.

That Gibson LP White should be fine as a studio guitar, decent range of sounds. I would've settled for black, always my preferred choice of color.

Trust me, my entire life is an ode to black, but I've seen that one in black before - I came this close to ordering, but it just did not cut it. Maybe with a bit of TLC, new EMG-type of pick up covers (matte black), black screws and all it would have been better. Black on black. But with the chrome hardware AND no binding to put things in perspective, it didn't work for me. It looked cheap-ish to me. This one is a "blemished" one (I'm crossing fingers because you never know, but I have over a month to return it if I'm not happy w/ it). Since I don't want min-etune and all that junk Gibson put on their guitar, I don't have as many options. It has 490R and 498T split coil humbuckers - my SG has a pair of 490 which I'm quite familiar with now, so I'm anxious to see the differences, particularly the difference the guitar makes. I'm expecting the LP to give those pick ups what I sometimes find lacking in the SG. OTOH, I don't think it can ever cut through a mix like the SG does.

You could always swap out the pups for the classic JB/59 setup. I did that to my SG ...which has aged to that nice creamy yellowish color

Hi Rain, Agree, if all the hardware was also black, whoa that be quite an update 'customizations'! Its unfortunate there's not many options straight out of the box, as you explained. At least the guitar has got the bones, you wanted something like that, then that's all that matters I got to stop saying, ' that' .

Glad you get my point. And the less time I have to spend messing around w/ customization, the better. I have no patience and you don't want to see me using tools. So I usually shop for something that'll work for me out of the box - or as close to. The last thing I want is to buy a guitar that I'll have to send to my tech and then shop for parts and all... Typical Mac user I guess... :P
