So has anyone seen/is anyone going to see "Roar"?

I see there's a lot of hubbub about the re-release of this insane 1981 movie in which a family live with a bunch of lions and tigers in Africa. I've been watching a few clips on YouTube tonight and while I don't get the impression that it's a particularly good film, the obvious danger involved in making it interests me. I've always been fascinated by the matter of fact way by which some people seem to be able to put themselves in extreme danger like this. And boy some of those scenes look DANGEROUS. Apparently a lot of people were mauled on set during the making, primarily because you're not supposed to act scared around these creatures but many scenes required the actors to show fear. Anyway I would have been scared ****less on that set, but maybe that's just me....

There's a difference between bravely risking your life to save another person and sticking your head in wild lion's mouth and shouting, "Hey guys! Watch this!"

The difference, of course, is that only one of those would get Likes on FB.

Awwwwww. They're just big, cuddly kittens. I would hate to see the food bill.

Wonder why this family decided to live with these cats. The people running around in these clips seem like a bunch of morons to me. I don't get it but will probably rent the movie anyway when it comes to rental.

It's not a documentary. It's a film with a plot, all acting. I think the story is the guy returns home after some time away to find his house is full of big cats. Rather than get rid of them, he decides to coexist with them. It doesn't go too well.

From Wikipedia:

Injuries
Over 70 of the cast and crew were injured during the production of this film. Cinematographer Jan de Bont had his scalp lifted by a lion, resulting in 220 stitches. Tippi Hedren received a fractured leg and also had scalp wounds. This occurred after an elephant bucked her off its back while she was riding it. She was also bitten in the neck by a lion and required 38 stitches. This incident can also be seen in the film. Melanie Griffith (Hedren's daughter) was also attacked, receiving 50 stitches to her face; it was feared she may lose an eye but in the end the wound was not disfiguring.[2][3] Noel was attacked so many times that he eventually was diagnosed with gangrene. One of those incidents, he was clawed by a cheetah when protecting the animals during a bushfire that occurred in 1979. All animals were evacuated, though it took several years for him to recover from his injuries.[4] Due to the injuries, turnover was high as many did not want to return to the set. Some of the lions also suffered from illnesses that reduced their population.[5][6][7] John Marshall was bitten by one of the lions and required 56 stitches.[8] His brother Jerry was bitten in the foot while wearing tennis shoes. He later jokingly said the lion had a "tennis shoe fetish."[9] Assistant Director Doron Kauper had his throat bitten open, his jaw was bitten, and one of the lions attempted to rip an ear off. He was also injured in the head, chest, and thigh. Although it has been reported that the attack nearly proved fatal,[10] a newspaper in the Santa Cruz Sentinel from July 9, 1978 printed a quote from a nurse saying his injuries were acute. He was also reported as being conscious and in a fair condition.[11

Who says actors have it easy?

I have no idea really what the film is about, but after one or two "accidents" () why in the world would they keep filming?  Would YOU want to keep going if your were an actor or actress???

People get passionate about things. Look at mountain climbers. I read the autobiography of a famous climber years ago and one part really stuck with me. He talked about the demented climbing culture in Chamonix and described a day in which a young couple on the campsite went out climbing in the morning, but only she came back. Her boyfriend had fallen to his death. She was upset, but they'd managed to cheer her up around the campfire in the evening and she even managed a bit of climbing the next day.
