Alice Sweet Alice - A Letter From Michigan
I just wanted to share this new song I'm pretty psyched about. Just finished the mix last night and now it's off to mastering. Hope you enjoy! http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13100024

Vocals need to come up, a lot. Also, I would suggest placing the female vocal wide left and right to separate it from the male vocal. Drums are a little busy, but the recording is okay. Lead guitar sounds very far away for some reason. This mix is pretty close, just needs a bit more polish. Regards, Dan

Long time since I heard you. I look forward to some good rock when I click on your songs and I am not disappointed. I would also bring the lead guitar a bit forward in the mix, maybe. After it goes for awhile I hear it just fine. An audio illusion? You do know how to rock.

Thank you Warren! Yes, we are bringing the guitars a tad bit forward as well as the vox - doing a vox up and vox down mix to soak in before we release! :) Always a fine line there. I appreciate the kind feedback! That drummer was 19 at the time of the recording. He can be a bit over-eager at times, but for this song - it is exactly what I wanted. You can't help but move your head and body along with it.

I love the song! However, I was fighting to hear the bass guitar, but it was overwhelmed by the drums. As good as this song is, a little extra polish on the mix wouldn't be wasted. I see that you're in KC, too. I'd love to hear you play if you're playing around town.

Reminds me of Rush mixed with the B-52's . . . which is to say, what an awesome love child! I'd agree with the vocals up, drums a bit down (always very busy, how about a calmer drum section occassionally so we can groove?) and I'd say bass up a bit as well. The vocals work a treat when I can hear them in between titanic drum fills and splashy hi-hats. nice tune! cheers, -Tom

You have a great rocker going here! I have nothing to add to the comments above other than -- oh, oh --- IMHO the drums are a wee bit too loud. However, you are the artist and if you are satisfied with them then that is what counts. I look forward to more of your posts.

Exceptionally well crafted and performed. Sounds 'Awesome' You most certainly nailed it (drums), whilst the bass cuts through nicely. Commend you for that, considering the guitars and keys also sits well in the mix. Lots going on but that's cool, you still managed to accomplish a great mix. Not an easy feat! The vocals only need come up a little bit, no harm since that space is center-focused 'Lead' (in their own spatial sound-scape), and since both voices (male and female) are different enough to stand on their own. Where harmony vocals occur imo should be panned slightly to moderately L/R, but the interplay of 'Female Lead Vocal' are perfectly positioned as is. A subtle touch of EQ-cut will make your lead vocals clearer and balanced in perspective with the female lead vocals. Anyway, just minor nuances (mix), therefore you make the final decision. Wish you all great success!

Yes thank you all. I think you will all see that most of these things have been addressed in the new mastered version. Waiting back for a new tweak and I will post the results! I really appreciate your input and time in listening! I have been listening.

Hahah, thanks Tom. I have to be careful though, because it makes me drive faster. Cops around here are bad with speeding tickets - so that's my biggest danger.

Close, just a few tweaks as hinted at above should put its final gloss on this. Thanks for sharing.

Cool song. The start of the lead guitar could come up a little, and maybe the drums are still a little to loud IMHO. But it's minor issues. Great work

Only listened to the final version, but overall it sounds pretty good. I would have probably bumped up the vocals just a wee bit, but that's subjective. I would also have brought up the entire guitar solo - there are some really cool lines being played, but it seems to sit somewhat behind the band. Eh, cool song either way! The main sections are arranged and mixed nicely and have some good punch.

As a user of multiple DAW programs, I see you also have this song posted in another DAW forum. I've been known to do the same when I use more than one DAW to create the song. I'm curious which program did you use for what. I'm finding I prefer different software depending on what I need to do.
