I have the S61 and that was one of my complaints about it besides you really don't get many of the bells and whistles if you just use it as a stand alone midi controller. I do Love the way the touch strips respond for creating pitch bends and manually controlled vibrato. Looking forward to seeing the reality of what this update brings.

Just got the S61. One of the better MIDI controllers that I've seen. In a perfect world, I'd like to see a 76-key version (probably won't happen as demand isn't high). From the videos, the new Akai Advance series looks good. Want to check those out when they're available.

The universal part looks good - but I wonder exactly how well "major developers" will support the NI standard for in-depth soft synth control. Like a lot of things, it sounds good in theory but the reality may be a little rocky. I'm afeard it may take major programming to get the keyboard functioning for some lazy developers - or those for Alchemy and such. @

And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see if the NI standard is adopted "en-masse". It would be great if a universal standard for virtual instruments was adopted/accepted. Tight integration of hardware/software can make a huge difference in work-flow.

I eventually need a new controller and the S61 looks pretty good. I have an Evolution 49key, but I typically use my ESQ-1 for the extra octave. The S61 is a little pricey, but the integration with K9 makes it pretty interesting. Hopefully it'll integrate with other synths along the way. I'll have to put it on the watch list.

I still want to try one. I want to believe a lot of publishers will pick this up but I have a hard time convincing myself they will. Time will tell.

This new Wheel (tm) is going to help sell device worse 300 for 700. If they establish open standard (on both sides, for controller producers and VST producers) with transparent specification (and not with licensed library implementing "proprietary protocol"), that is a good idea. Just another overpriced wheel otherwise.

I love my s61. And I would love to have the color map to EZdrummer and such. In the metal kits there are lots of cymbals so it would be really useful.
