Plugins don't remember where I move them to on the screen..

Hi guys, is this a bug, a design decision or pilot error? My plugins always pop up top left on my screen - even if I move them to a more convenient place. Next time I open them, there they are again, top left. Slows me down a bit :O)

Anyone have any idears here?
Thanks so much!
Ludwig

Are you saving the project into a locked screenset?

Mine will stay where I put them provided either the screenset is unlocked or they are positioned where you want prior to locking/saving

I'm pretty sure that plugs used to open where you closed them ... now each one opens where the last one was closed - all on top of each other (screenset unlocked)

This is independent of "Recycle plugin window" settings.

Strange thing is that going back to X3 shows same behaviour ... was there an update to common component or am I just losing it ????

    Colin (or anyone else listening),

Could you pls check again / explain further if you indeed have different behaviour ... my plugins all open where the last one was closed i.e. all on top of each other

Didn't each instance of the plugin remember its position and open again in the same place (after being moved and closed)??? If I'm mistaken, this would definitely be an important feature request ...

that's funny because I remember mine doing likewise and now they don't ... are you sure each one remembers its position  ... as on: open Plug A, open Plug B, open Plug C, move A, move B, move C, close A, close B, close C ... now A opens where A was, and B where B was ... ??? because mine all open where C was as this is the last one I closed ...

My plugs Do NOT reopen where I left them. Instead they all open where the last one was closed and my screensets are unlocked
Could different results be due to what version of Splat ppl are using?

I checked on Sonar Platinum 64 bit, Cambridge release and I found the same behaviour as FreeFlyBerti. They all open on top of each other where the last one was when it was closed. I wish it were the same as what jih64 reported. Not sure what is the expected behaviour.

Yep, on Platinum, wherever you the plugin was that you last closed, is where the next plugin will open. Looks like a dumb side-effect of the window 'recycling' that was added recently, which presumably uses the location of the last closed plugin so that it knows where to put the new one.

That was also my impression ... a side effect from the recycling ... strangely it also affected X3 somehow (common component?) ...

I am curious how this affects X3 as well. All plugins opened in X3 appear where the last one was closed.

So this is nothing that came with Platinum, just tried X3 on a machine that I retired and never upgraded to Platinum: identical behaviour i.e. all plugins in X3 open where the last one was closed.

    Feature request indeed.

I am glad you confirmed that, since as I was playing with X3 I could not remember "for sure" where they opened! I figured it would be better to bump the thread than make that assumption.

I typically open, move, do my thing, close... so reviewing this thread was the first time I think I have ever "just opened" three at once (and they are stacked when doing that).

Edit: From a parent/child perspective it makes sense for this behavior, since Windows will open a new window based on the last child creation (typically tiled format). Remembering a particular plugin once released (and worse by plugin location - say three of the same plugin, but on different tracks) may be a bit more difficult than initially meets the eye. Once closed/released, that data is "gone" unless specifically stored "somewhere."

It's probably always been like that but once see them all on top of each other, you seem to be smelling the fish and off you go with "hey, that can't be right" ... I would have bet that it was not like that before simply because I'm so used to programs and dialog windows remembering their location these days that if it's not the case I don't believe it ...

Yeah, this is native windows behaviour but as I said many applications have that save/recall of dialog window positions build in these days ... it's after all just two coordinates to store ... and if coded in the right base class it applies to all windows ...

So I tried a bunch of plugins and all VST3 x64 and VST2 x64 plugins remembered where you placed them.  The VST2 32 bit plugins did not and returned to the upper left corner of the screen when re-opened.

That's likely because they are technically instances of the same Bitbridge plugin.

    Sonar Platinum (Newburyport) / Win 8.1 64bit / Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 / Absynth / Kontakt / Play / Superior Drummer 2 / ESP LTD guitar / etc

Probably related to this:   if you minimize a series of windows, they line up on the bottom of your screen in the order you minimized them (good thing).   HOWEVER if you change screensets, then return to the first screenset, the line of minimized windows is NOT in the order you minimized them (bad thing).   Looks like they are ordered by the original track creation order, regardless if you moved tracks around in track view to suit your project.
