Here is my latest mix after taking your suggestions.  I spent time on the basses in order to separate them and give them their own space.  I also tweaked the vocals and, hopefully, balanced the guitar tracks better.  http://www.soundclick.com...&q=hi&newref=1

Re: New song - Let It Fly (updated 4/1/15) 2015/04/02 08:27:12 (permalink)
Wow!  Big improvement in my opinion!  The bass is no longer competing with the kick (on my system anyway).  I keep waiting for the song to take off and "Let It Fly" with a driving snare drum at some point but it never does (for instance at 2:20 or so).  Instead the sidestick plays throughout...

Keep up the great progress on this one Lynn!

Cheers!

Thanks, Tony, for taking another listen.  I'm still interested in getting your advice correct.  Having gotten past the bass wars, I'll turn my attention to your idea.  One of the big aids with the new Platinum is the ability to try several mixes via the new mix scene function, which lets me try several ideas and save them under one heading.  Stay tuned.

This makes me wanna do some buck dancing! Improvements sound really good. I would still like to hear the vocal a tad more , you have strain a little bit to hear it when the right and left guitars are riffing away. I like it though .makes me feet move.

Nice tune.

Left guitar (main intro riff) could come up. Seems out of balance with the rest of the instrumentation.

Yup better. To my ears that left guitar could still use a db or two. It's just personal taste at this point I'm sure.

Fun tune, Lynne. I like it! Very unique style and very well done. I can't comment on the mix because Im listening on ear buds while working out.

Ed, thanks for taking another listen!  I probably can push that guitar up a notch.  I actually wrote the song around this riff while I was demoing the new guitar, so it deserves its place in the sun.

Greg, thanks for your time and input.  I had a lot of fun doing this song, and I'm glad you appreciate it.

Mike, it's good to hear from you.  Thanks for your kind words and time.  I hope the mix pans out for you if you happen to hear it on something else.  I did briefly monitor it on buds during one of my mixing sessions.

I enjoyed the track. I'd have a splash of verb underneath the guitars, just to take the edge off. Nice work.

Thank you, Gus, for your input.  I actually have a few drops of verb on the guitars for a touch of depth, but maybe I'm standing in the shallow end of the pool ;)  I'll experiment with a bit more verb on the next pass.

OK, I pushed the guitar up in the intro (per Bapu), and added a touch of delay to take the edge off (per Gus).  It can still be found in the OP or here: http://www.soundclick.com...hi&songID=13078742

The new guitar sounds great Lynn...you're going to think I'm crazy..and you might be right, but I think you sound a lot like Davide Lee Roth...I think you could be a stand in for a Van Halen cover band. Great vocals. The production is well done I think. Most minor nits and ops have already been covered.

I thought I replied here! I listened a few days ago, Lynn, and meant to say:
Very cool tune! really unique, while still keeping a strong 'pop' attraction (at least for me!), a good combination of strongly defined styles.

Lynn,

Really cool song.   Reminds me of Big Country a bit.    The cowbell is a nice touch.  Really enjoyed the song and performance.   Congrats on your PRS, what a great guitar.

Late to the party here, but... Love this percussion! Song sounds like The Kinks -- that's a big compliment. That guitar figure seems too busy to be present all the way through like that, especially behind the vocal and with the hyperactive drums. It's a good riff, but I would switch to something less frenetic during the singing, and just bring it out when there's a space for it. Sorry, I know you have a new guitar.

Hi Larry, thanks for dropping by.  You're never too late at this party.  I know what you mean by the guitar part and somewhat agree with you.  However, being based on a hoedown theme, the guitar is basically representing what a good fiddler might be doing.  Some fiddlers are quite busy throughout a song.  But, based on your observation, I think that I may write another song that's similar, but less busy, rather than  rerecord this one.  Good ears and good idea!

Hmmm...   I dunno, this could be my favorite yet from you, Lynn.       Catchy melodies, nice punchy and balanced mix, cool arrangement. Love the effect on the vocals on the chorus line tails.   Oh, and the three chord walk-downs are phat.

I think I like progressive hard rock hoe-downs!

Sean, thank you for your kind words.  I'm loving that PRS!  Don't tell anybody this, but this is the first guitar with humbucking pickups that I ever owned.  I'm working on something in a blues vein for my next PRS project.  If I hadn't posted this song here, the song would still be in the womb.  I can only thank my multiple co-producers.
