Old song, finaly recorded

This is a song  I wrote for many years ago. I believe It deserves a chance so I recorded it a year ago, but haven't made a mix until now. I'm not totally happy with the mix, but I thought it would be fun to have some feedback from other people before I spend more time tweaking it.

This song really pops from my speakers which makes for a very pleasant listen.  Every element is easily heard and well panned.  The vocals shine and make for a very good pop song.  It sounds like you put a lot of work into this, and I give you a  well deserved thumbs up!

    All the best,

    Yes, It Pops!

It makes me want to pop up the volume. ...Guess this is good and bad.

Since English is not my native language I don't understand it that much on the first run. But I guess, this is good since its add mystery to the song.

I don't know that much about production, yet. But guess I know what I like.

    Good Song.

Excellent melody, and really excellent harmonies! Memorable treatment of these. Your singing definitely puts me in the mood of some pretty classic '60's pop, which I quite like.

For me, the background electric guitar got a little samey throughout the piece - you might drop it out more.

And the snare sounds like you have really spent time on the reverb, but it kind of gave me a "recorded in a stairwell" feeling, which I could see fitting the mood/era of the piece (1960's) - my ears in 2015 wanted the snare to be drier.

very nice work, I can totally relate to "I wrote this years ago, just getting around to recording it"  !!!

    cheers.

    @Lynn: thank you very much!!

@PiBoy: glad you liked it. English isn't my native language either (I'm from Norway), so i really don't know what I'm singing about :-D

@emeraldsoul: I agree about the guitars. I might do something with them. And the snare is also a little "too much".

I really like your kind words about my vocals, because I don't consider myself as a vocalist. But I sing a lot in the shower....

I get the 60s vibe too.  The snare snaps just fine for me.  Your vocals are really good and I like the song.  Singing in the shower?  That's some good reverb.   I'm not sure how I feel about the 60s vibe cause that is less than commercial today.  BUT... really who cares?  A good song recorded in any era(or sounds like an era) is a good song.

The 60's vibe was not a goal, but I like classic popsongs with harmony vocals, so it may come natural for me. The commercial thing is not something I care about. I like all kind of music. My next song may be a Kraftwerk inspired song or a Deep Purple rip off (but I don't want to try to sound like Ian Gillan, coz that is impossible :-D)
As you say, a good song is a good song, and I'm glad you like it.

    Thanks

I really like this! Is it you on vocals? A+ mix, thick, rich harmonies—very well produced. Catchy melody too. I agree it has a retro vibe, but not in a negative way. There's a reason a lot of music from back in the day is called "classic rock". When I have more time I'd like to go through some of your other stuff.

This number does have a '60's feel to it and I dig it!  The harmonies are great and the melody really draws one into the song.

@pjfarr: Thanks, yes it's me on vocals. Glad you like the production, but I may do some tweaking on some things in there later.
I don't have many tracks ready for the public yet, but all the positive feedback  for this song is very inspiring. I just have to finish my new homestudio first

I like it. I think its modern, and your accent adds to the feeling of a contemporary pop. You did a good job with the mix. I don't think you need to have BGVs on every lyric though. Play with those a bit to get emphasis here and there and make specific stanzas stand out. "Wake up now" is really cute too.

"wake up now" isn't my song, it's daryl1986's song. And it's a very nice song.
I'm not sure why it always starts after "lottery" on souncloud, but it may be that I've been listening to it many times myselfe.

    Hi Roger

Considering you do not consider yourself to be a "vocalist," you have a very good voice, and I don't just mean that you sing "in tune."

Mix sounds fine, although I'm not really qualified to comment, as I'm not a mixing or mastering expert, by some distance. All the elements can easily be picked out and I wouldn't "tweak" a thing at this stage...

I eagerly look forward to your Kraftwerk inspired toon

Love it. I also hear a 60s vibe (Byrds) in there. The references to 60s style are simply another way of saying - the writing is very good. The 60s was a period of musical innovation and experimentation - this song has it's own personality. It's well recorded too - good performances. I like everything about it. You're taking your own path and it's refreshing. Great job.

Yeah, totally getting the 60's pop vibe here too, at least during the vocal sections - your voice + FX really has "that" era about it.  I also really like how you're going up to falsetto and back down, really smooth.   Musically it's a bit more modern but it still fits well.     Nice!

Excellent song and production.  The harmony blend you use reminds me of the Moody Blues songs.  Very creative beginning and ending.  I hope to hear more from you.

    Thanks jimfogle.
I always appreciate feedback, and especially when it is positive.
I'm working on several songs which I hope to finish soon , but I would have liked more time available to spend on music.....
