Drum-Map Generator for Sonar

I have written a small tool to create drum maps for Sonar from an instrument file (or any other text file with lines "note=instrument"). I always found the initial step of adding all the instruments to the drum map the most tedious, with this tool it becomes almost copy/paste if you have a textual description for the mapping.

You can download the "instrument to drum map" tool from my new web site Audible Distortion under "Tools > Cakewalk Sonar". There are also several other just released tools for musicians like an SysEx editor for the Novation Impulse keyboard, musical calculators, and a waltz generator that creates over 759 trillion different waltzes based on a dice game by Mozart.

Thanks for this - appreciate your generosity. I also saw the "DLayer" MFX while I was visiting your website. I take it that is 32 bit only?
Thanks again Ralf

The DLayer MFX contains both, a 32bit and a 64bit version.

Does this mean you know the drum map file format? This tool is unlikely to be any use to me as I don't use Instrument Definitions but I could certainly create a different tool if the format was available.

Sonar Platinum (Newburyport) / Win 8.1 64bit / Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 / Absynth / Kontakt / Play / Superior Drummer 2 / ESP LTD guitar / etc

So... if I can create and prepare data in an excel sheet... could I also use the program to create articulations/keyswitches as drum maps? I'm sure that i have some data for my ewql libraries ready...

Thanks Ralf...

I haven't used any drum maps in a long time, but I'll check out your plugin ASAP... It could be a handy tool to have around as I remember how tedious it was to manually build these within Sonar itself...

Thanks for sharing!

Kylotan: I figured out enough of the drum map file format to create drum maps, but there are parts that I'm not sure about. I can share the file format if there is interest. It should be enough to read/write drum maps with all parameters.

I could have written a more complete editor for drum maps, but except for the part of creating the initial list with the instruments, I can live with the editing options inside of Sonar.

Elffin: Exporting an excel sheet as a text file that can be used with this tool should not be much work. If you have two columns, first with the note number and second with the instrument name, and then export with = as separator, you have an instrument map.

Anyone who is interested in the file format for Drum Maps may download a short description here. There are a few parts I didn't figure out, but it contains all parameters that can be changed in Sonar.
