New album! Sleepwalking Showtunes

Finally finished my labor of love, the 2nd Fog People record. The whole thing can be streamed from our bandcamp or soundloud page so I'll include both links. Somewhere in the middle of this I foolishly upgraded my DAW and lost nearly everything. I had to go back to each single project and manually re-create all the synth patches. It nearly did me in but in the end we pulled out a whole record out of it.

Everything was done in SONAR except: a songs vocal track which was done in Reaper because we used varispeed on it, a guitar part because SONAR decided to be a jerk that day so I comped it in Reaper, one song started life in Project5 before being imported into SONAR. Mastered in SONAR as well, though I did some final edits in Sound Forge, as well as all the mp3 conversions that happened.

I should add: this is where all of your very generous advice has gone for the last seven years or so. So, thanks! :-)

I wasn't going to listen to the whole album, but once it started playing, I couldn't turn away from it.  I rarely say that something's innovative, and this isn't quite the case here, but it's close.  I only say that because I'm reminded of a band from the 90's called Curve because of your vocals and arrangements.  However, I will say that I love this because it's unpredictable and definitely not paint-by-numbers music.  The production is very professional, and you've apparently taken advice here very well.  I would recommend this to any of my friends.  That's the highest compliment that I can give.  Congratulations!

    All the best,
    Lynn

Wow thanks man! I think if I played guitar with any proficiency we'd probably sound a lot more like Curve actually. We get comparisons to Garbage now and then which is like a techno-Curve.

    But thanks so much!

I'm with Lynn here, although I don't have the time right now to listen to the full album... I've "liked" the playlist so I can come back to it later

Oh, we have a music video for our first single now!
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27OaDszFgko

Here's what the Monarch Review had to say about it:

“My Turn” by Fog People feels like an 80’s challenge. It’s as if I just had a frozen French bread pizza, watched The Breakfast Club and now I have to rock out next to some nice ladies in leggings. The jam is energizing, mesmerizing and forceful. Challenge accepted, I will head bang! Amidst dancing I will also appreciate all the people in this odd video singing and dancing along. It’s like we’re in a community of weird 80’s challenge acceptors!

Well I listened to the Utub video then thought I will try the band-camp version of My Turn.

Is it me or are my furry ears giving me confusing messages is there nothing in the centre?
It sounded very wide with the Vox on the left.  Could just be my furry ears or my soundcard and Internet PC is lying to me.

The Band-camp version sound much better and the next track fathom5 sounded right i.e. left right and centre content.  Even more confused Wookiee and furry ears.

Hrm, so you're saying the Youtube version sounds weird? They all started with the same final mix, but I don't know what ooga booga Youtube does to audio when you upload it.

The Utub version sounded dull and the Vocal on the left was the same from Band-camp or Utub, however the next track Fathom5 sounded fine (Band-camp) with left, right and centre content.

I thought I had commented on this before, but I guess not...    I really liked it!   Catchy songs, nicely arranged and mixed well - suits the style well IMO.    I'm definitely getting a bit of the 80's vibe but there's much more than that happening from what I'm hearing.

PS...  Love the dreamy/creepy feel of Fathom5.

Thanks SteveC! We get the 80's thing a lot, I guess short pop songs with a ton of FM synths = 80's. :-)

One thing I learned from 1st record is to not be precious so the arrangements and very lean. Turned my 6 minute epics into 4 minute pop songs quite easily! :-)
