Sonar X3 Studio, Roland GrooveSynth plugin

Hi friends,
need some explanation.
In a project, I have chosen Roland GrooveSynth for the bass line. Using bank 8192, patch TriLead1, applying Filter "Cutoff" and "Resonance" to change the sound from time to time. Trying the effect out manually, it worked. So I tried to automate it by MIDI controlers 74 (filter cutoff) and 72 (filter resonance) and checked both fields "read automation data", and "write automation data". So I drew my lines in the control lanes I had previously opened, checked correct channel assignment, but when playing the music I could not hear any sound change anymore. I see the knobs on the Roland GrooveSynth turning, displaying the changing values, but the sound does not change at all. What's the story, please? A mix without sound changes for me is as good as a joint without weed. ;-)

I think you need to enable automation reading on the actual plugin window (top right). Also, I don't think you should have write data enabled if all you want to do is read the lines you drew. Not sure if that's interfering.

As an aside filter resonance by the GM spec is CC#71. CC#72 is envelope release time. If the GrooveSynth follows this (I think it probably does) you may be automating the wrong parameter.

Hi Sanderxpander,
then I got it right, it seems. I was erroneous about the controllers in my initial post.
CC74 for filter cutoff, and CC71 for filter resonance. Indeed, I had CC72 for envelope release.
And: I see the knobs turning, so they respond to the graphs, but the sound itself does not change. So there must be something else wrong. Or is it the special patch that does not react? It is just for  the timbre I want which is in that patch. I dislike the others, even in case they sound relatively close to this one.

If they're working when dialing manually they should be working when automated too, especially if you see the knobs move.

I think I would file a bug report if
A. You see the knobs move, and
B. You hear the sound change with manual manipulation.

Ok, I've checked some options.
1) When operating the knobs manually withthat patch, the sound changed.
2) Automation failed as described - I've meanwhile turned off "write automation data", since drawing lines in the automation lane works independently from that checkbox.
3) Manually operating the knobs after that attempt with the patch TriLead1 in bank 8192 fails.
4) changing the patch to bank 8192, to MG Saw, the sound changes with the automation lanes. This looks as if the patch I originally wanted does not react anymore to automation, while othes still do.
5) in Bank 8320, there is "TriLead 2", which also does not react to the turning knobs. Problem: I do not seem to find any other patch sounding like a simple triangular wave form which could be changed by filtering. Will I have to kick out the Roland and change to PSYN II, which I actually need for another voice (and channel)?
Thanks for following up.

One hour later: No, PSYN II does not help: The automation lanes do not affect this instrument at all. Or do I have to create new lanes?
