Transferring software ownership to a new computer looking for advice

If you build a new computer and you don't own any software that requires a dongle, what steps have you taken to assure that everything you bought can be transferred with no problems?

This one is a bigger problem for me than assembling a new computer and it scares me the most. I'm even noticing myself procrastinating the inevitable. How do companies like NI and others handle transfers?...I'm taking a stab at it in thinking I should initially copy every single serial number down......I had major problems with my IK Multimedia stuff when I changed a hard drive. I cloned the drive and all of my IK software needed to be registered again...I still haven't done all of it, and this is only the tip of the iceberg compared to a totally new build.

If you can't tell me what to do maybe you can tell me what NOT to do :) Thanks!

Hi Tim, I didn't make much of this issue when I built my PC (I also used a lot of IK's & NI's stuff). Usually, vendors give you extra Auth's/Serials to use on multiple PC's, and I always have a list of all my software serials in one file (to use when needed).
Of note, I just took out my old samples HD and installed it in my new PC........only on the OS drive I had to manually install all my music software and authorized them......didn't have any issues. Just check with all your software vendors on the number of auths/serials you can use.

I've never had any issues with transferring. I do know I'm at the end of my Best Service keys but you can simply email for more.

NI is easy, from my experience they don't seem to restrict in any way. It's Toontrack and IK that limit the installs and available licenses (tied to a computer). Most all my other vendors (non dongled) use license files which do not care a hoot about the computer.

Wow thanks guys!...I was inder the impression it would be some kind of a nightmare. I was especially concerned with NI and Komplete. I might not even bother with some of the IK software since I'm hardly using it. If they make it a fairly painless process, then maybe I'll keep it around. I would hate to loose any of my Best Service software.

For IK, if you are out of licenses, simply request more. They've been pretty quick in the past to supply them. Check your user area now and get a jump on it if you're out of licenses.

We upped the authorizations to 10 so you likely have plenty.  If you are using the latest AmpliTube and/or T-RackS (including CSR now in the T-RackS family) you can just use Custom Shop after logging in and do a Gear --> Restore My Gear within both "sides" of the Custom Shop app and you should be good to go.

I have an old version and would like information on how to register for my computer.
Sonar X2 trial producer. Authorization is needed.
