I think this might be a potential problem with the new way of releasing sonar.
Previously when it was released as a new version once a year you always had a demo within 6 weeks of release but now their putting out new features and bug fixes every month or so I can see that it could mean demo versions won't always follow which is a shame as I'd really like to see what they've done with platinum but don't see enough to make me want to upgrade just yet.

I've never seen a Sonar demo released within 6 weeks. More like 4 months on average by the time the first few patches had brought about stability.

There's a big thread discussing the demo here.

    Hi Mike-

Maybe I'm on your "ignore" list, but I replied to you in that thread that CW specifically said they wanted it to be available on day 1 of the release here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3216667

That's, I think, the only reason the lack of any comment from CW about a demo seems strange. If they aren't going to release a free demo or if they just assume that anyone interested enough will pay for a month or if the demo will be delayed, etc., fine, but what's the harm in letting people know the status?

Obviously, the "we want it to be available on day 1 of the release" didn't happen for whatever reason, but maybe they could provide an estimate of when it will be available (or if it will.)

It's obvious that demo's will be coming via the CCC eventually but they are far too busy doing other stuff right now... Like enhancing the CCC first.

    Hi Alex-

    How is it "obvious"?

P.S.: I should drop out of this conversation altogether, but I admit I'm curious why they announced an early demo and then went silent about it.

Well take Rapture Pro for instance, it has a demo mode already built which intigrates with CCC, but the package RP hasn't been rolled out in the CCC yet for all users (or users that request it). Still by mistake some paid users got demo versions that didn't get activated (probably because they were offline).

Whatever code they are using here they will probably be using something similar for Sonar eventually, although it will have different behaviour as a demo. And Sonar has a demo mode when it expires from what I understand.

It seems to be that it's just the planets aren't in alignment yet, or more likely CCC is not ready to handle it. Or Cakewalk is waiting till their applications are more stable or impressive, or more likely they are just too busy with everything else.

..and yes cakewalk did announce they would be doing a demo. So they will... eventually.

Sorry Susan - you're certainly not on my ignore list. I just hadn't got back to that thread. Having seen your comment here I posted back where you commented in the other thread.
I don't really have much to say though as I don't know why we didn't get the demo on day 1. Like others I can only speculate. Likely that it wasn't ready. In previous release cycles it's only about at this time I'd be thinking a demo would be coming out soon. Maybe there's some uncooked feature they particularly want in the demo. Who knows.

On the upside, this is probably the last ever wait for a demo version as it will be built into the paid product this time.
