Help with V Studio 20 and Guitar Tracks Pro 4

I have had both products and never got them to work together. The V Studio works fine with the Guitar Pro it came with, but I need the Midi support from Pro 4 to use EZdrummer.

I have downloaded all updates and using Win7.
The V studio works fine as an interface and the editor works fine, but I cannot get it to control the tracks or record/stop and what have you. Only the A button lights up and cannot switch tracks. Under Midi options I have the Daw control checked on input/output.
Audio is ASIO and VS20 is out/in.
Now under option/controllers I went to the add button as selected VS 20 as controller. for some reason the in port and out port do not say anything in them, if I click on them vs 20 daw control appears, but when I close it out, they are blank again when I call it back up, not sure if that has anything to do with it?
I'm stuck in the same situation I was from last year. If I select a track manually on the computer, arm it, press record on the computer, it records fine. I need to operate this from the VS20 from across the room at different instruments, so please help me and life will be complete!!!
Thanks!

It looks like no experts with VS20. So, the answer from an "expert" without VS20 (just joking )

Most probably in the Preferences/Midi/Control Surfaces you see "(VS-20...)", so in parentheses. That means the plug-in for VS-20 could not be loaded (just checked, and that is the case in my Platinum).

If that is the case (and even if not), download the installer from here:
    https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013175/V-Studio-20-Control-Surface-Installer-for-Cakewalk-hosts-v1-0-0-4

And run it. Select 32/64 depending on how many bits your SONAR has (I think you can install both in case needed).

After that you should see no parentheses around VS-20 in the list and you can select In/Outs.

I have a VS-20 and I used to use it with GT4 pro but it's not installed and I don't know if I could find it. It did work as it was supposed to though, I remember that. The main problem you will face with it is no one is using GT4 anymore. I bought it hoping it would be easier to use for a newbie and found SONAR Home Studio 7 was better with no real learning curve(except the new features that it had GT4 didn't.) after a few months of HS7 I tried a free trial of SONAR X1 Producer thinking it might be fun to look at but way too complicated for me. I was wrong again. X1 was way easier to understand and learn than the "beginner" products. I have Platinum now. There is so much information out there for the current products compared to GT4 or Home Studios. Having said all that, you will not find much help without giving info on your system. Computer type, processer, how much ram, what version of Windows, 32 bit, 64. Do what szslow said and yhou should get there. Check YouTube, there is some stuff there that might help.

Yeah, I did all he suggested, but none of it worked. I just hated chucking away a $200 program and a $300 dollar VS-20.
Win 7 ultimate 64 bit, 12 megs ram, 3.20 Gig AMD chip. I know this computer will run the software fine. I checked Youtube and no one has my software that show how to synch the VS-20 to it. I just cannot get the controls working as did everything suggested. I downloaded the 32 and 64 bit drivers and can select the VS-20  in guitar pro tracks 4 under midi, but other then the Cosm and all the inputs lighting up and working, the sliders/track selection does not do anything. I'd hate to buy Sonar as just want to do nothing more then record/stop on 14-20 tracks or so. I do all the Bass/guitars as single tracks live and then overdubs and 4-6 tracks of stereo synths I have, plus vocals.
So, if I have to buy sonar, then I will come back to you if I have issues getting the VS-20 working :)
    Thanks anyway...

Set the VS-20 Midi to Effects in and out (not DAW)
Set GTpro4 to DAW (midi controls)
go to Options Controller/Surfaces set to DAW Control in and out.

The VS-20 unit will function together with GT4.

Ok, treat me like a kid. I have the VS-20 on and guitar tracks Pro on. I cannot figure out where to set the VS-20 in and out?
I went into the options/controller and set VS-20 in and out, still not working???
What Project do I open up?
16x4 mixer, 16x4 blank, 24x4(mixer/blank), Blank or normal? In any case the VS-20 does not select tracks or do anything. It stays bright light on the "A" light. I can hit tuner, Cosm, Gtr/Bass, Mic 1/2 and they select, but does nothing in the program as far as I can tell?
I push the record button and it does not light up nor when the program is up. Please help explain this...

Slight update: When I pull up the VS-20 editor, I have under Midi devices, I have both set to effects.
In Guitar Pro, when I go to option/contollers, there is no VS-20 showing up to select from. I can choose Act Midi controller and input and output port to VS-20 Daw control, but on the VS 20 if I push buttons, they don't light up and some of them make random drum sounds. Why is it not showing up?

Forget it. After all these years, here is what I did. I deleted all software guitar tracks pro 4 and guitar tracks. I deleted all roland drivers and VS 20 software.
What it seemed to be was loading the VS-20 software first, drivers and editor (not sure if that had anything to do with it)?
Next was installing Guitar Tracks Pro 4 and letting it do it's thing. Now before I loaded GTP 4, I deleted and redid EZDrummer from scratch. It had a hard time finding it before.
So, what I gather is you load GTP4 LAST. Then is seemed to easily find the VST's and the VS-20 as options. It works great now, all of it. I'll mention if something quits, but I have restarted many times and it seems to work...Cross fingers and backing this up now...

Never mind, it quit working again, grrr. Worked for two days and then it quit. I mean it no longer showed up in the VST as a controller. This is the third computer this has done this on and 4th hard drive. Should be ashamed of promoting a product that simply does not work, damn. I can somehow after a week of playing of uninstalling this and that, then it magically works, until a few days later on a project, it stops. The VS-20 works fine as a sound box each time, but not in this program, please help!!!

Hi. I use VS-20 and Guitar Tracks.

Are you using the version of GT that came with VS-20 or did you upgrade or purchase a separate copy of GT?

Also, did you apply all the patches to GT? There are a few for VS-20 if you look on the Cakewalk site.

It is not the version that came with it. It is Guitar Tracks Pro 4, not the free version. I payed like an extra $150 for the Pro version.
Yes, I did the VS-20 updates from Rolands site as well as Cakewalks site. If you do not have the Pro version 4, it is not really helping me.
None the less, I gave up and bought Reaper and it works 80% on that Daw versus hardly ever on the Pro 4 version. It works fine on the GT that came with it, but you can't use EXdrummer and other VST's, so useless.
    Thanks anyway!
