There is no way for a mic not to pick up your singing and guitar playing if you do both at the same time. Your best bet is if it has a line out - just plug that into your DI (1/4 inch plug). Your interface should have one associated w/ a mic input. It will also be called an instrument input, and sometimes they combo a 1/4 inch and XLR (mic) input. If you are playing acoustic w/ no electronics, you are out of luck and have to just a work around. If you absolutely need to have your voice to play guitar, do one pass with the mic picking up both, then play along w/ the previously recorded track just like you plan to sing.
Yes, cabling is something your local music store marks up. On the other hand, when a needed cable breaks in a session, if you don't have a local store or the ability to solder it yourself, you'll pay more to have it quickly shipped. Sometimes it is worthwhile to throw you local shop a pricey bone.
