Is there a list of plugins from previous Sonar versions or Cakewalk Daws worth installing?

Getting my new laptop setup and having to re-install all my audio apps/plugins/etc..

I've been using Sonar since v2 (and used Project 5) and was wondering if there was a list of plug-ins (or other content) from previous versions worth installing along with Sonar Platinum?

it would be nice if I didn't have to run the installer of each version just to see what jewels might lay within.

Thanks
...Steven

C'mon Bakers, bring back Analyst! Not because of the analysis, because of the multiband envelope follower.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

It is not like you can install just those plugins- you would have to install the whole X2 or X3 which are at least 1 Gb of space.

I was about to post this question- hope I can ask it here. What would I loose if I uninstall X2? Do you mean these (X2 - Analyst, FX2 AmpSim, FX2 Tape Sim, R-Mix, VC-64 and V-Vocal) will be gone? I dont know what Analyst or FX2 AmpSim, FX2 Tape Sim, R-Mix, VC-64, but I use V-Vocal and would like to keep it. Thank you.

I don't want to sound blunt but that's incorrect..

The only plugin per se, that requires a Sonar program installation is VVocal and the basic Sonar X2 installation is only about 200 MB. None of the other Sonar features/plugins need to be installed as you can deselect everything else in the Advanced installer.

All the other plugins are selectable from the Advanced installer in the Sonar version that has the plugin you want.

You can, just choose custom installation and pick the appropriate components.

Edit: As Mudgel noted the option is Advanced.

You have to click past a couple of other screen.
When you finally get to the Select Components screen unselect Program Files and unselect/select the appropriate items.

It has been over a year from the time I installed Sonar 3. I was actually looking at the installation data folders on my C drive and I see Sonar X2 and Sonar X3 each have at least 1 Gb of stuff. I remember X2 and X3 used to be installed by parts. I did not think of Custom install- you probably right.

So if I uninstall Sonar 2, I would definitely lose V-Vocal, right?

Re: Is there a list of plugins from previous Sonar versions or Cakewalk Daws worth install 2015/05/03 00:40:46 (permalink)
Yes.
If you install the full Sonar content you can often have multiple Cakewalk Content folders under each Sonar version folder. This can add about 1 GIG to each installation. I often forget about this because the content hasn't really changed in years and I always overwrite the older content with the new. That way I only add any new material and only have one lot of content,

I also locate the Cakewlak Content folder on another drive and use the mklink command to connect between the default location of C:/Cakewalk Content to my Projects drive.

BTW belated thanks to Scook for posting the list.

I was able to install all of these without installing the whole DAW with the following issues.
Lexicon Pantheon installed using v8.0 install set - Couldn't run 8.5 installer because I didn't have 8 installed.
R-Mix - while you can install from X2 install set, the update for R-MIX that fixed a couple of issues is part of an X2 update that won't run unless Sonar X2 is installed. However if you have R-MIX on another computer you can just copy the whole R-Mix folder over and avoid having to reinstall it or update it.

No you have the option to do a custom removal, just click on the bits you want to lose or keep been awhile can not remember what the option is but you do not have to remove it all.  Beside if you have any other SONAR like 3 or 5 or 8.5 installed a straight un-install would remove all the common components the un-installer is aware of.

Sorry wookie but VVocal is not a selection in the advanced installer/uninstaller.
It's actually installed as part of the main Sonar program and can't be installed separately. This is the only plugin that works that way.

This thread inspired me so I went back to Sonar 8.0 (when I first started with Sonar) and went thru the 64-bit installation process to see what plugins/instruments were available (all except X1 which I never got, but I surmised what it had based on archived web pages I found). I show them below as a picture (please excuse the poor formatting. I can't get this forum to work for me) but you can find the spreadsheet here. Please let me know if I made any errors.

Thanks Fret_Man! I managed to typo "Thanks Ferret_Man" which made me chuckle at work loudly and now everyone is wondering what a 'cakewalk' is and why I'm typing into a box next to a Donkey. People are strange... ;)

Mudgel's law states. The amount of fur on the outside of an alien, is inversely proportional to the amount of fur on the inside times IQ (on the furrier scale). Or get your furry self onto the set of another space drama and get hold of a babel fish.

VC Vintage Channel is still available in the most recent installs, at least up through X2.  I have it and use it frequently.

Thanks for providing the info re: X2 availability of the VC.

I love it also.  Great sound and all the routing possibilities are really nice.

Never heard what happened to Kjaerhus - he just seemed to disappear.  He made great plugins.  I have the Golden Modulator and it's still my go-to plug for modulation, especially flange.  The set of freebies was a really good set of plugins too.  You can still download those.  I forget the site off hand, but they are hosted somewhere.  Just Google them.

I know the list posted is a bit old, but hey, I don't see VSampler in there?? I believe it was in Sonar 3 or 4. I still have both programs but never really got into them. Some years after when finally building a newer DAW, I thought of trying to install it but instead only checked out the included samples by opening their folder and clicking on them, as at least some were in WAV format. I finally stopped thinking of that quirky little app as a secret weapon....;)

Seems I can't post a link on the forum, but he was imprisoned a couple of yeas ago. It wasn't good.

I can't believe they dropped Beatscape. No other DAW that I have other than Reason has anything like it. I know someone who still likes to use the Sonic Timeworks compressor that came out with 2.2XL.

I bet all the big boys got together and framed him for something....since his plugs were so good. Ha!
