Damn ! Beat me to it (note : not the sandwiches, the tune !)

I was thinking (seriously like) of doing a copy of this tune, but you beat me to it. Nice one monkeys, great production. Would have brought the current Mrs's vocals up a tad as a counterpoint against ze Bapu's lead. Just my POV.

Them glorious hamonies of t'original, they're not necessarily necessary, goes to show.

Nice Monkeys ( and the Current Mrs 1968).

When my wife and I were living in Toronto, I listened to CHUM radio and they gave airplay to this song every fifth song (or so it seemed).  I overdosed on this number back then and haven't heard it in a long time.  I forgot what a pleasant number this was.
I really like the laid back feel that you have given this number.  It sounds great and I too like the guitar work (including the bass) on this rendition.
Thanks for the memories.

I really liked your mix balance, each thing is dry and separate. And it's really a classic tune you are covering, great to hear all the things you did with your rendition. Background vocals were a definite win here.

That said, I wonder what microphone you used for the main vocal? I don't think it brings life into the vocal - which sounds very "effected"compared to the rest of your instruments.

Did you filter or eq the vocal? Or did the mic just limit the range it was capturing? Was it a dynamic sm-57 type deal? Maybe I'm used to hearing condensers on vocals. I think condensers give a little bit more air or something.

still, great job on a great song.

cheers,
-Tom

ah, thanks for the response! that's a ribbon mic and I get how it smoothed over some of the air! I don't own a ribbon and I've always been curious about how to use them, I've read that they are aces for mic'ing a guitar amp. It does lend an vintage quality to your vocal.

again, good job, I like this song more after hearing your rendition of it!

cheers,
-Tom

Thankee Yorolpal - but actually to get that effect, I mic'd up Baps while he swung the guitar amp around his head

Cheers Tom. Bapu sent me the vocal and I threw lotsa stuff at it. It's probably my fault if it sounds sort of separate.

You guys are something.  The chorus was great.  Maybe a tad much on the ambience on the lead vocal during the first verse...but sounded perfect later on.  Lots of separation (psydo stereo) happening to a minor degree.  BG vocals...great!  This stuff is hard to do...in a way..., but you all pulled it off.
