No automation lane for Kontakt synth when synth track is from a track template

I'm using Signal (by Output Sounds), which runs inside Kontakt. When I create an instrument track with this synth, I can create an automation lane for any of its automatable parameters. However, if I create the same kind of track, but via a track template, I cannot create an automation lane for it's automatable parameters -- "Kontakt 5 2" does not show in the dropdown in the automation lane.
 
I don't know if this issue is just with Kontakt, or with any track templates in general.
