Avid PT 12 Subscription Question

Apologies if this was answered elsewhere, but

I can snag PT12 Student and Teachers Edition for 99 bucks but its an "Annual Subscription"

does that mean after 12 months the PT will stop working unless I renew?

To the best of my knowledge PT doesn't stop working...you just won't get the upgrades when
they become available unless you renew...

Thanks a bunch, Larry.
Now I have to decide if I want to dabble with PT or not, but that educational price is the cheapest I have seen.

Ive pulled the trigger on PT before, and lost interest in it as the workflow is wayyy different than Sonar©.
I wish it came with the enthusiasm module

I still have PTLE 7.4 on my Vista partition.  Which I haven't booted up in....  umm, wow, has it been that long?

I would double check that. I'm not understanding it that way but I can't say for sure. It's definitely confusing.

Me, I'm not going to upgrade until (unless) I see something substantial in the feature set. PT11 runs good enough at present.

Re: Avid PT 12 Subscription Question 2015/05/12 21:12:53 (permalink)
I guess I should have qualified my statement...ONLY if you do the
PAY ONCE option does it not stop working...

I do the PAY ALL AT ONCE model...so mine won't stop working...I have PT 12,
and I get PT 2016 for free as well...I have the licenses already on my EYE LOCK..
so I don't think they will stop working...I think you just don't get any more
upgrades...

Oh yes...and I still have PT 9, 10, and 11 licenses on my EYE lok...
So, no matter what..even if that IS the case, I can revert back to 11...
I think that only if you do the "annual $299" payment do you lose your
license until you are paid up...

Re: Avid PT 12 Subscription Question 2015/05/12 21:42:37 (permalink)
So if you currently OWN Pro Tools and upgrade to 12 you STILL own it.
BUT, if you want FUTURE upgrades it's $199 a year.

If you don't own it, and subscribe for $299 a year then it cuts
off after the year is up.

I have a perpetual license...and STILL get PT 2016 when it comes out...
I will still be able to use my current software, I just won't get future upgrades
if I don't pay the $199 a year upgrade cost...

Huh...   I just noticed that PTLE doesn't seem to be on the upgrade list. Not that I have any dire need, but interesting none the less.

There is also the $29.99 a month plan...

which will also bugger out if you don't pay...

As long as you do the "perpetual" you still keep it...
It's only if you do the "$299 a year or $29.99 a month" that you don't
keep it...

I have the perpetual license...

Perpetual as in $899?

Steve,

Yes, I already owned the full version of Pro Tools.  My upgrade to 11 was $199 (and further discounted when purchased from JRR).  It gave me Pro Tools 11, 12, and 2016 perpetual Licenses...after that I will have to
pay $199 in 2017 if I want to continue to upgrade.  But, regardless,  I still own the product and am
technically not "subscribing"...

I guessed I missed the boat then...   The $199 upgrade to v12 doesn't list pre-v9 PTLE as a candidate, though it does include Express and M-Powered.   Odd.
