How to Add Maschine as a controller in Sonar Platinum

How I got Maschine working as a controller in Sonar.

Open NI Controller Editor. Make sure you Maschine is correctly selected.
Goto Factory Templates dropdown and Select Mackie Control.
Tick Host Transport Control
Exit the App
Start and open Sonar Project.
Preferences-> Midi > Devices. Make sure Maschine Studio In is Ticked.

Preferences-> Midi > Control Services
:
Click the Add New controller service button
Controler Service = VS-700. Input Port = Maschine Studio In. Output Port = None.
Click OK.

You might not get what you expected with the keybindings, but the behaviours is as intended. Check the keybindings in Native Instruments Control Editor for more.

If anybody has any further customizations to add to the Controller template please post here!

    Well I played around it just now. You need to press SHIFT + CHANNEL (Or CONTROL depending on Maschine you have) to get it into controller mode and I can assign dials to the Pro Channel. Play, rewind, forward etc will work by default however.

    For some reason though I can't assign the controls to synth plugins (I tried Z3TA+2).

    I've just discovered in Control Mode it will move the timeline with the Maschine studio jog dial by default - woa - workflow game changer!!! That's huge!! Goodbye mouse!

    There are some huge default facilities here as well. If you move the lit up arrow key it will control SOLO/MUTE/VOLUME buttons etc etc by default... Well anybody with a Maschine (esp studio) I urge them to try this.

    Perhaps it's the fact that English is not your native language, but if you don't have anything positive to contribute why make a comment which seems in rather poor taste at the very least. For a contributor who confines himself to dealing with facts this seems rather thoughtless.

    I found a bug.

    In Sonar we have the age old problem (I really wish this got fixed very frustrating !) whereby you can lose your settings in Preferences -> Control Services for whatever reason (often because you didn't have you controller switched on once for instance).

    When this happens you (more or less) have to repeat the steps all over again in #1, not only in Sonar but in Maschine Controller Editor as well.

    Thanks... If anybody gets MIDI learn to work for VST synths please let me know how you did it.

    I'm try to suss out a few things... maybe somebody else may know the answer

    If I assign controller mode by holding shift plus channel, and then toggle with the lit up arrow buttons I can control the volume (etc) of the first 8 channels of my DAW with the 8 dials, which is pretty awesome! At the moment I can see channels 1 to 8, how can I see channels 9 to 16, 17 to 24 etc? I suspect the answer is no without creating another template in the controller editor software?, or maybe there's a toggle somewhere?

    Also I see "Channel 1", "Channel 2" etc. It would be nice to see "Vox" and "Bass" instead taken from Sonar instead but I doubt I can make that happen.

    And above I notice that the select buttons (1 to 8) will select the tracks in my Sonar. But any idea what the other buttons are for? I can read what they say and guess what do they, but how do they work right now in Sonar?

    Questions questions questions...

    That's one reason why I power up many of my connected devices simultaneously, including powered speakers, audio device, powered USB hub and MIDI hub. This ensures that by the time I start Sonar, things like Maschine and my Alphatrack are powered up and running. As you mention it's frustrating to keep reconnecting devices. Maybe you could do a similar thing until we get a fix. Or in case we don't get a fix.
    Is there a bug report or feature request filed?

    You are right, English is not my native language. I have tried to encode Russian humor with English words, it looks like it does not work as expected. Sorry if my statement can be interpreted wrong.

    The same meaning in strait sentences. If someone wants fully integrate Machine with Sonar, I am around to help with that. In case the target is to find out which VS-700 functionality can be mapped to Machine controls, I can "throw away" my comments, no problem (and less work) for me.

    Thanks for your reply. It's difficult enough to convey meaning between persons of the same language when text is the medium, add translation from another language and it can be complex indeed. I sure appreciate you taking my comment in the spirit in which I meant it. That is, educative not judgemental.

    I'm posting this video as an excellent reference. You will still need to follow instructions in #1 first. I haven't had a go at a custom template yet...

    Its very frustrating. I can use remote control to midi learn the knobs etc but to programme the transport is a minefield.
    What Sonar needs is a midi learn in the key bindings preference page. For some reason it wont pick up the play button even if I set the play button to be on Midi channel 1 and set to 1.
    The midi is clearly going in as the midi icon light is flashing, but midi wont bind to it.

    Alex, any progress?

    I really dont want to have to switch between one preference to another just to be able to use the transport and the assignable remote controls I have setup.

    right, so, using the method Alex found with the transport / jog control..Note those settings and programme them into a Platinum template, then use remote control to learn all the knobs and whatever you want to do.

    Voila, I have maschine doing what I want it to do.

    nice one Alex for getting my brain into gear on this.

    Cheers...The big one is trying to get 'bank' pads 15 and 16 working so you aren't limited by 8 channels. I really want to get a custom template working if anybody beats (see what I did there) me to it please share!

    I have Knob pages 1 and 2 controlling 1-8 and 8-16 respectively....

    You have a toggle set up so you can jump channels in banks of 8? - if so please let us know how you did it!

    Found it.
    Start controller editor
    Press pad 15
    Press assign tab & Hit Tab
    Enter MCU Button 47
    Press pad 16
    Enter MCU Button 46

    This will now toggle in banks of 8. Sadly the channel numbers don't change on the display though...

    Please, if you find a way of doing something let us know..

    So I went through all 103 parameter ID's for "MCU Button".... Some seem to work with Mackie control... others don't. I managed to locate a few CC's worth having...

    48 = write automation record enable..
    49 reset faders toggle
    63 = piano roll
    64 = toggle control bar
    68 = audiosnap
    74 = master bus focus
    89 = toggle smart grid mode
    90 = Add marker
    96 = arrow up
    97 = arrow down
    98 = arrow left
    99 = arrow right
    102 = play/stop

    I then realized of course it's communicating through VS-700... so I went through the VS-700 manual no luck.
    Does anybody have a list/table of VS-700 controller codes?

    Thanks..
