Nano Kontrol 2 and Sonar Help [SOLVED]
I can't seem to figure this out. Please be patient, I'm a noob. I almost want to go get another controller that would be plug and play, if there are any... A controller is not a necessity, but I would like to see if it helps at all.

I think that's gonna work. I'll try and edit for Solved if it works.

Ok, I thought maybe it was the driver, but Sonar does not recognize the Nano. I got Sonar on my laptop(which blew up last week), to see it, but couldn't get further.

You are connecting it up before you start Sonar aren't you. Does the editor recognise it?

How about if you disconnect your soundcard, and only have the NanoKontrol connected. I know this cretes a useless situation, but I had this with an M-Audio Trigger Finger. Just wondering if the same occurs.

I used a nanokontrol2 with Sonar for quite a while. Can't quite remember how I got it to work though. If I remember rightly you have to press a couple of buttons while it powers up to set it into the right operating mode, then enable it in Sonar preferences as a control surface using the Mackie protocol.
I'll see if I've got a note about how I did it somewhere.

The Korg Nanokontrol user's manual has you set the nanoKontrol up in Mackie mode to work with Sonar. Make sure you are not running the Korg editor at the same time. Once the device is setup, plug it in and then start Sonar. You should go to preferences "P" key and then to midi devices. The nanoKontrol should show up under MIDI In and MIDI out devices. Click the checkbox in the MIDI In next to the nanoKontrol entry. If it doesn't show up double check that you don't have the editor open and that the editor can see it. Once you check the box in the MIDI settings now you can go configure a control surface in SONAR which is another topic. Hope that helps

Fireberd had a longer thread on that guy a while back, I believe. MF actually sent me one as a "bonus gift" a couple years ago that I only tried to use once because of his issues with his. Here is that thread (just found it - marked as solved). Edit: that is not the one I was thinking of though... the one I remembered was setting it up as a custom control surface (ugh). For the OP, if you google search and preface the search terms with "site:forum.cakewalk.com" you can search this forum significantly easier than any other method I know of. HTH

How to do it. The instructions can be found in the manual, downloadable here - http://www.korg-datastora...ONTROL2_OM_EFGSCJ1.pdfUnplug nanokontrol. Press down the "set marker" and "record" buttons and with them still pressed plug in the USB cable. That starts the nanokontrol in Sonar mode. Launch Sonar. Go into preferences/MIDI devices and select the nanokontrol ports for input and output. Go into preferences/controllers/surfaces and select "Mackie control" as the surface and the nanokontrol's ports as input and output. Once connected like this it should work. It's also worth looking at the parameter guide for the nanokontrol downloadable at http://i.korg.com/uploads...634479709631760000.pdf

I have a nanoKontrol 2 and took me a little while to get it up and running. What you have to make sure is that it is listed as one of the first 10 midi devices otherwise you will end up with the problems that you are experiencing. Easiest way to do this is load up the korg device uninstaller and it will list all the midi device drivers. When I did this I found that the nanoKontrol 2 was not listed in the first 10 so I installed all devices and re-plugged them into the USB ports one by one, starting with the nanoKontrol. This fixed the problem for me.

No scenes on the nanokontrol I think, but there are on the nanopad.
Sorry, but the method I described above worked for me without problems.
As biodiode says, your problem may be too many MIDI 'ghost' devices for Windows to cope with. Another way to find them is to open control panel/device manager and check 'show hidden devices' which is in one of the menus (away from home so I haven't a PC to check exactly which).
Device manager will then probably display a number of additional things some of which might be MIDI devices. Delete them and see if that helps. The 'ghosts' are created when a device is plugged into a different USB port than before and Windows has no way to tell if it's a device is already knows about or a different one so loads a fresh driver which then persists in case it's needed again.

This is intriguing to me as I had on my last windows 7 laptop and issue with MAudio Trigger Finger, it that it was seen by Sonar unless I disconnected my Soundcard. So I moved to the KorgNonoPad2. I never sold the triggerfinger and with its additional controls was quite handy (when I had it working before). Problem is it's 10,000 KM away boxed for ebaying. Hmmmm

Also remember about the dreaded MIDI port limit in Windows. That's bitten me a few times where a device appears to be recognized, but SONAR can't see it because it has to look through Windows to see it.
