Thanks, Rimshot... more than two is quite awesome... gonna have to think on this... both daws have so many unique and awesome things.... And the more I've thought of the scratch pad it really would be nice for exploring new choices for song parts.

The live stream was really a good sales pitch.  The bakers should do more of these, as Platinum has just as many uniquely powerful features, just different ones... I think Platinum is so uniquely powerful and don't really see being able to many things I currently do.  Plus, trying the S2 demo left me cold a long time ago.  Maybe it was my mood or lack of clarity at the time, I don't know... they say it's so easy to use but I felt frustrated after so long with the baked goodies...

Vegas pro is next on my list for the moment, anyway!  Gotta start videoizing my songs.... but hope the bakers reflect on some of these enhancements as they are really cool, workflow wise (could care less about the sampler, synth)

I use Studio One exclusively for the Mastering/Project View, and so far I haven't seen any enhancements in 3.0 for that feature.
Really, it's so good, I can't see what they could add without "damaging" it.

So I'll stick with 2.6 Producer for now.

The Mastering view is cool, but it would be really nice to be able to automate effects parameters in it.  At first glance, it seems this still isn't possible in v3 -- if not, boo.

Cheers,
Eddie

Pretty much the same here. Midi doesn't seemed to be improved & is lacking compared to other daws.
For mastering it's great though. Not upgrading either.

You have always been able to do it. You just float the mixer out of the dock and drag to where ever you want including a second monitor.

Actaully on  27" screen it is so well designed you don't need two screens. It is so easy to show/hide the mixer with just one keystroke.

New version is very good. An amazing program has just got seriously better. Rock solid too.

Thanks for the info - might have to give the demo a go then - I don't think I could go back to a single screen now, whatever the size.

I need to lay off buying software upgrades.  Hardware is where I need to go.  X3 was to be my last version of Sonar. Well that didn't work out.  I'll hold of on this one.  The bundled instruments in S1 are meh. I wouldn't even try to market that as an upgrade feature.

Hey Tak T.,
FYI, the colors are now user defined in S1 V3.

Oh, cool. Thanks for the info. I guess CW now needs to work even harder to compete with this DAW.

I tried the demo but Studio one can't recognize my midi sustain pedal from my Korg Krome. It is also a hog trying to configure midi controller A500Pro. Sonar never gives me this type of problem.

How large is the Demo?  I may try the demo out, but I have really, horribly bad internet connection.

[Edit:  Nevermind.  I went to the Presonus site and see that Demo only has some of the addons; so it is not too large for me to try out.]

Thanks.  I did the 92MB install and it asked to import from my Producer 2.6.2v and I let it.  This way I can check out how it works without downloading the four extra downloads for now.  It worked.  i got to play with Mai Tai. The Demo does not have the Note FX, at least not in the basic 92mb exe file.

Is there anything in the four extra downloads (Inst vol 1 & 2, Drums, Music Loops) that are not in the Producer 2.6.2v?  I have 15gigs worth of instruments and loops from my existing previous install of 2.6.2.

There are 29 downloads in the full Pro Version.
Only 4 in the Demo...

I don't think the included 4 have anything new from 2.6...but I can't swear to it.

Hadn't used version 2 much in recent times. I didn't really have any intentions of upgrading SO2? But after having another poke around Studio One, in a couple of minutes I became aware that I had already created an intro, a verse, and was halfway through a build up to a chorus. Then it hit me how the program just seems to click with me. I can't for the life of me work out why I hadn't used it more?... Next thing I know I'm $149US lighter...

Why are there so many DAW options?!!

Of course if there weren't as many? I'd be asking why aren't there more...

Four commands that I have posted in the Sonar Features Request forum showed up in ver 3 - Trim to start, Trim to end, Fade to start and Fade to end. You can also assign these to a hot key which saves a ton of time when mixing. I totally miss these commands from Pro Tools.

Well, any DAW vendor would be crazy not to keep close tabs on the competition, and what better way than to monitor the feature requests forum?  What's disappointing is that Cakewalk, Steinberg, et. al. then often turn around and completely ignore innovations and developments of their competitors.

I just watched a Groove 3 video on the S3 extended FX chains.  Wow!  What an inspired and powerful feature.  The S1 team has set the bar really high in this area.

Fortunately for me, the S1 tempo capabilities are really primitive compared to Cubase, so I don't have to suffer through the agony of "should I switch?" internal debates.  Money considerations aside, learning a DAW is *way* too much effort to make such a decision lightly.  But I hope the Cubase product designers are paying close attention to the S1 FX chain feature.  I would assume all of you SONAR guys are hoping the same thing of the CW team.

Seems I'm missing something...and not in defense of Cakwalk either.  But the multi FX chain and multi instruments dealies in Studio 1 v3... although you can't set them up the same in Sonar, I'm able to create the same result...albeit with some more mouse clicks or whatever if need be.
The multi instrument dates back to my hardware days of "MIDI Thru" on my rack pieces for layering. I did this A LOT when playing live to layer synths.  In cake I "laboriously" have to copy a MIDI track...but then it actually gives me much more control, as I can slightly alter the MIDI on each track... ie keep MIDI note on/off more suited to the VSTi patches.

Maybe I'm witnessing the new revolution of people getting stoked about min mouse click items.  But TO ME, truly in the end, sometimes it limits what you can do (as in cloning a MIDI track, as I mentioned above).

the Presonus colors are nice I suppose.  Doesn't affect my music though. ;-)

Re: Watching Studio One 3 online preview 2015/05/23 22:08:02 (permalink)
Mix,

You bring up a good point.

Reaper is way ahead of Sonar in being able to sequence synths onto one track, but there are limitations in the fast fix.

Sonar clone, like you said "laborious" gives far better individual synth control.

This same approach can be done with any multi track DAW like Sonar unable to host more than one vsti per track, as far as I understand it.

Was always pushing Energy XT for you guys to try, because XT brings Sonar capability to the level of what Studio One 3 claims it can now deliver.

Studion One 3 looks like it brings all the needed parameters into one channel to do any and everything needed, minus the ability to go into a single cloned track and edit midi notes.

Esay for me to judge from the sidelines since I can't even install the demo on my dinosaur win xp system.

You guys know better who have it up and running, but if things work the way theye are supposed to, Studio One 3 has left us all behind in the dust, only regarding handling of multiple vsti synths on a single track. Doesn't affect or mean s*** to a tree for the vocalist or a guitar player.

John

Re: Watching Studio One 3 online preview 2015/05/24 01:43:21 (permalink)
does S3 have an equally elegant comping system?  Track templates? Pro channels?  Mix recall?  Could probably come up with a pretty long list.... I think we all too often hail a few new innovations and forget the uniqueness of what we have.

I do love all the main feature improvements.  The nice thing about Platinum is similar opportunities can be incrementally added and I hope they are.

And the idea of learning a whole new system... I recognize I'm challenged in this respect but my comfort level is pretty high these days and far too little time making music anyway!  Last time I tried version 2 I was scratching my head and sayin'... why can't i do... how do i do.... and the info that was on line didn't help much.  Guess if this were a full time business multiple daws would make sense... if I only had a brain!

I'm still keeping an eye on this, but for now, using the MUX plugin provides much of what S3 introduces in regards to multi-instrument tracks.  I'd certainly prefer to have a native version though, no doubt... their implementation does seem fairly slick.   But I'll get by.

My hope is that CW expands its core MIDI capabilities to include this and other things we haven't thought of yet...

Expanding the MIDI capabilities would be nice, but, I would almost settle for Sonar just remembering the ports I have my MCU & Extender connected to when I forget to turn them on prior to starting Sonar...
