WITHOUT

According to the blurb, it uses ARA, so at best it could work in Studio One and Tracktion which, to the best of my knowledge, are the only other DAWs supporting ARA right now. But I would guess the license will be tied to SONAR at least for the short term.

I suspect it will be treated much like quadcurve. It's something to give Platinum a USP.

Whist I am at it I wish we could get a VST for quadcurve and updated Sonitus plugins... Oh well...

Just remember all you pros out there working with customers. This will be a FIRST release, the first month you should be evaluating it, the fixes come the next month (hopefully). If we are very lucky it will work right first time.

I would guess is highly unlikely as CW plugs are usually locked to a certain SONAR version (or better). This feature is coming online so that even Professional/Artist users are locked out with the same version.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

I think it will work more like Audio Snap than as a plugin per se. That is, it will be part of the Sonar Code, not an add on that can be purchased separately. But at this time only the bakers know.

No, it will not be available for sale as a VST. Part of the charm of Drum Replacer is the tight integration with SONAR. We didn't want it to be a VST plugin for that reason.

Drum replacer is an ARA plugin (besides Melodyne, its the first native ARA plugin in the industry).
At this time it will be only available to Platinum customers. Its possible that we might make it available as a paid update to Studio or Artist customers, but at that point maybe its better to just crossgrade to platinum :)
The main advantage of ARA in the context of DR is that it has full access to the audio, allowing it to do its hit analysis ahead of time and thereby have zero latency triggering.

Even if it were allowed to work in other ARA capable DAW's, SONAR is the only DAW that has generic ARA support. i.e it works with any ARA plugin and not just Melodyne.  (AFIK Studio One is locked to Melodyne only)
While it could have potentially used in SONAR X3, it wouldn't work properly since there have been many advancements in Platinum's ARA implementation as well as other features that DR depends on. For example DR needs access to the project audio folder to save data, etc.

DR has been in development for a long time - close to a year. We put a lot of effort into stability and making it work well out of the box so we're excited to see how users like it - I think with DR we have the most intuitive and integrated drum replacement solution in the industry. It has some creative applications even outside of the primary drum replacement function. You can use it on any percussive material to fatten or add another percussive voice to it. Imagine taking a guitar part and adding automatic percussion hits to the accents or even blending in a new attack sound with it. Or you can drag out MIDI from a DR clip and send it to a synth...

Even if you aren't a platinum user with access to DR, the good news is that there have been numerous bug fixes and enhancements to the ARA code, making even Melodyne work better in SONAR!

No its very different. Audiosnap detects all transients in the source material.
In DR you can use the filter control to dial in specific frequency bands to detect specific hits. You have 3 lanes you can independently work with using the same source, so you can extract hits for 3 independent drums for example, and then assign them to different samples and blend them in to the mix.

I'm getting sorta curious now too...

I'm picturing a way to sorta add drums to tracked instruments where there was no click track to start.

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

I've needed this a lot, and have always failed trying to use Audio Snap to create my time frame to add MIDI drums.

have you had any success with AS?

I've definitely used AS to extract midi and augment drums. I usually set it to extract the intensity of the hits too. But I almost always have to go through and add and remove transients before I copy the midi.

I can usually map out the kick drum track in about 2x the length of the tune (listening and adding and removing transients).

Woot... so is AS planned for an upgrade to allow this same audio microscope capability?

Noel- your answer in post #11 has me even more interested! It's great to know that Melodyne is even better in Sonar, now, too.
I started thinking about my loops collection, from 10+ years back, and how I suppose now, I can use them with DR and AD2 or SD3 and not be "stuck with" the sound of the kits, but take advantage of the grooves. This is cool!

Aha! So that's how you get zero-latency triggering. Makes sense...and probably easier than violating the laws of physics

I use Drumagog quite a bit to reinforce drums (for metal, it's almost mandatory to do that these days). One of the great things about Drumagog is that being a plugin, I can automate the threshold, blend and detection time, so any quiet hits can be detected by drawing in an envelope, or if there's, say, a quiet roll that builds into a crescendo, I'm able to automate the blend so it slowly fades in more of the sample as the roll builds.

Will DR have this kind of functionality? The threshold sensitivity automation is something I could see being indispensable.

Not in the first cut unfortunately since ARA plugins don't expose automation in SONAR yet. We may enhance this in a future version however. Feel free to submit a FR once you get DR :)

Hey guys,

Posted this elsewhere and thought it would be good to share here as well.

I thought I'd 'leak' a few rough sound examples to demonstrate some of the stuff this thing can do. Pardon the "quality ." Made these at the kitchen table through laptop speakers :\

This is one of the primary workflows. Replacing individual hits in a loop. Made the kick floor toms, and the hihat a kick:

https://www.dropbox.com/s...nicToAcoustic.mp3?dl=0

This one is an example of creating drums to accompany guitar. It's a fingerpicked pattern. I made the loudest low frequency notes play a kick, and made the snare respond to everything possible to get a rhythmic feel. This approach works well with bongos, etc. also:

https://www.dropbox.com/s...itarAccompany.mp3?dl=0

Here's another non-drums example. I grabbed a bunch of sounds from an electronic loop library and set them to trigger based on different notes. The loudest low freq notes trigger a long sample; the other notes trigger an electronic kick:
