"Let's Go"

It's been a while since I posted a new song here. This one is about new romance with a country/folk feel.

Jimmy, this is a terrific song!  I love the vocals and lyrics, which, combined with this infectious melody make this a hit.  The overall production is very smooth and balanced.  The only thing that stood out to me was that the bass sounds a bit MIDIesque.  But, that's not a biggie, and if you like it, then it's good to go.  Congrats!

    All the best,

Hi Lynn.  Thanks so much for the listen.
The bass is actually a sample loop of an upright with chorus on it. I only cut the very bottom off around 30Hz and left the rest alone.
In fact, the fiddle, acoustic, bass, and synth bell part were all samples! I had fun using them. I normally don't use sample loops like that but hey, it's 2015!

Great tune, Jimmy, and an outstanding job on the recording of it.  Blew me away.  Maybe would like the vocal up just a smidge more... other than that, she's a winner!

Thank you Phil! It's great that you liked it. I struggled a bit with the lead vocal and finished the mix thinking it was too loud! A smidge might be .5 db at the most?

Super job!  Bring those vocals up...don't be shy.  And maybe crank the drums up a bit as well.  Moves right along:-)

Thanks much yorolpal for the nice words. Not shy and I will let this sit for a day or two and then see where those vocals and drums sit once I get away from it. 3 day weekend coming up! Thanks again for your feedback.

Vocals up, and boy I'd sure find another bass patch or a  more driving bass line to fit this really awesome song. A good bass player could have a field day on this one.

Again, a really great song - the melody fits all the accompaniment perfectly.

    cheers,

Thank you Tom. Looks like vocals up! Will note the bass part but I really grew to like the one I used for this song because it is different. I might try a live bass on it to see the difference.
And thanks for the nice comments on the song - it puts a smile on my face.

Thanks Daryl! I like that it sounds "current". Check on the vocals. Would a gnat's whisker be .25db maybe?

Great feel Jimmy. I did not think anything was wrong with the bass (considering it was samples). Yeah, the vox could come up just a tad.

love the feel of this tune...I think I would have kicked it right in and not had that lone guitar...cuz once she kicked in....it was stellar...

I think the main vox in the chorus needs something but I'm not sure what...a tad more or different compression as it sounds in a dryer space then the rest of the tune...

    I really loved it!!

As Lynn says, very infectious. I thought in most spots the mix was spot on. Maybe a fader ride on the vocals and drums just to give them that tweak at the times they need them. Just a suggestion, I like it the way it is though too.

Hi the pogue. I appreciate your nice comments very much! I really did not take too much time with the lead vocal. I just held my SM58 in hand and gave it a couple passes. I was not good at keeping my distance exactly the same when punching in verse to chorus so you may be hearing more bottom on the chorus.
I agree it could be cleaned up a little but not a lot! :)

Howdy rebel007. Thanks much for your kind words. I like the idea of fader rides and was going to do that to the lead vocal but now will consider for the drums as well. Good one!
Whatever I do, I don't think I want to change much at all to this original. It just works on all my test systems.  Even the level of the lead vocal seems right on low volume, iPad and and cell phone using Apple earphones. Even the sibylance jumps out at me so I am not really sure if I will improve the presentation with adjusting it too much. I thing we are talking micro moves here!
I love the feedback though because sometimes it is so hard to tell what is really going on until you guys chime in with your helpful comments.

    nice tight arrangement!
good tempo, i like the rolling brushwork on the snare

i think the lead vox sits nice,
on the chorus tho, it is a little low in relation to the harmonies,
actually, as good as the harmonies are,
if you just bring them down a touch during the choruses,
the issue with vox balance may just solve itself.

Jimmy, This is some great stuff and like Lynn said has an infectious melody. Makes you want to get out of your chair and dance. Great instrumentation, vocals and mix!! Very enjoyable to listen to. Very nicely done.

    Peace and Blessings, John
