Melodyne Essential - What to install...?

Hi, all. I'm in the middle of installing X3 Producer (64-bit), so a quick response would be most appreciated!

I've gotten to the installation step for Melodyne Essential (or "Melodyne singletrack", which I found on this forum is just Melodyne's name to distinguish Essential, Assistant, and Editor from their stand-alone "Melodyne Studio" software--thanks, Sanderxpander!), but I'm presented with the following installation options, and am not certain which one(s) I need to select:

- AAX (64-Bit)
- Rtas
- Vst 2 (32-Bit)
- Vst 3 (32-bit)
- Vst 2 (64-Bit)
- Vst 3 (64-Bit)
- ReWire (64-bit)
- ReWire (32-bit)

Obviously I know to avoid the 32-bit versions since I am installing 64-bit SONAR, and I believe that Rtas is a Pro Tools exclusive format (?), but I can't find what I need to install between AAX, Vst 2 or Vst 3 (or both), and ReWire...

Hopefully someone can offer a succinct and briefly explanatory answer in a short amount of time.

Scook, are you around?

All you need is the VST if all you are running I Sonar. If running Sonar64 then install the VST64.

As far as the VST 2 or 3, you can do both, just make sure that they go to different folders.

The 64bit VST3 is used by Region FX and is the only one you really need to install. Assuming you are running 64bit SONAR.

Thanks, guys!

Grem - What would be the reasoning behind installing both VST2 and VST3, if the latter can do everything that the former can (and then some)?

Scook - What are the AAX and ReWire versions for?

AAX is a ProTools format
You could use the ReWire version, it is supported in Cakewalk. If you were running Reason, I believe the ReWire version would be necessary.

ReWire is basically a system that standardizes a connection between two different software apps.
It allows them to communicate as one in theory, as opposed to one controlling the other like a plugin-type connection.
Sonar may be compatible with some ReWire programs, but not others in my experience.

As I understand it.

Thanks, sylent. Did you install the Melodyne Essential that came with SONAR? If so, which version did you install (VST2, VST3, ReWire)?

I install them all except AAX that way I know they're there.
They can be shared by other software later, and not all software can use the vst2 or 3, or 64x, so you cover more bases for when the ball might be hit later.
But that's just me.

In Sonar, Melodyne runs differently, so you don't need the ReWire, but it won't hurt to be there.
Like Grem said, just install them in the proper folders.

The installer will guide you where if you're unsure, and install all the VSTs, or just the 64x versions.

Edit: and when you go to use the plugins, they will say which versions are 32 or not, and they'll be organized by type.

Damn it... For some reason, my computer decided to restart while I was away, before I finished the Melodyne installation.

Does anyone know if Melodyne is the very last thing to install during the X3 installation run, so that I can know if I just need to install that, or if I'm going to have to clean out all X3 content (or worse, all Cakewalk content) and start over?

It's probably just paranoia, but I just didn't feel comfortable moving forward without seeing the finished installation screen, so I'm going ahead with a reinstall.

Thank you guys for all of your help with Melodyne though. Much obliged!

EDIT: As a small aside, Rapture's installation came after Melodyne's. So, of what I installed, Rapture processed last.

Yes it's always best to feel comfortable and knowledgeable.

Good luck with it.... Melodyne rocks once you get to know her.

Re: Melodyne Essential - What to install...? 2015/05/28 20:37:49 (permalink)
Ok, I got everything reinstalled.

During Melodyne's installation, I selected only the 64-bit VST3 option. But afterward, I found that it had installed both a 64-bit and 32-bit version of "Melodyne singletrack.exe" on the computer (one in "Program Files/Celemony/" and one in "Program Files (x86)/Celemony/").

Seeing as I never intend to use the 32-bit version of the program, can I safely delete the .exe file in the "Program Files (x86)" folder without causing any problems in SONAR or with the other version? (There is only one "Melodyne singletrack" option in Windows' Programs and Features application, so I don't think I can uninstall just one or the other.)

I left it alone but doubt deleting the 32bit folder will affect anything. Whenever you are in doubt about deleting something, first rename or move the directory/file so that it cannot be found and see if everything works.
