New Song -- Long Way Back -- Latest Mix as of 6/1

Here's a new project of mine.  A fairly laid back tune.

Have spent a bit too much time with the mix, so would like some feedback.  All recorded and mixed in Sonar.

Thanks in advance!

Paul, I'm glad I waited until you posted the second mix because I think you're on to something.  However, I kept waiting for the chord progression to change, but it never did.  When the verse and chorus are exactly alike, it makes for a long song that's hard to maintain the listener's interest, in  spite of flying in a few backup vocals here and there.  I'm hoping you can hear a bridge or transition or something to break this up into sections because I can.  I think this could be a majestic song if arranged well.  I thought the vocal was better in the second mix because it was louder and it's well performed.  There are enough good elements in this song that it could be a gem with a little more content and a little polish.

    All the best,
    Lynn

Nice Pink Floyd territory. I'd bring the lead vocals up just a bit. Actually, more than a bit.

I hope the guitarist is getting paid more than the drummer, because he/she sure is doing a lot more. I think some busier drum fills in occasional places would help, even in a slow-tempo psychadelic dirge, it's nice to give the drummer some.

Overall I'd say this song works! Reminds me of a previous era, which was, ironically, a long way back. :)

    cheers,
    -Tom

Lynn and Tom have made excellent observation with regards to this tune, will keep the furry ears open for the remix.

Ya, break it up a bit. Not like Zargg but a change might do it some good.

But then again maybe this is how you heard it in your head.

Thanks for the feedback.  Doing all the performing, recording and mixing, I lose a little objectivity. . .

Anyways, I uploaded another mix.  I did not break up the song, as it fits with the other songs. . .for now.  Hopefully I'll be able to get those finished relatively soon.  I changed up the drums a bit (a few fills) and tweaked the mix here and there.  FYI -  SoundCloud doesn't do good things with the sound of the hi-hat and crash tails and some ambient tails.

Edit note:  Re-uploaded the track linked below, as I had to tweak a couple parts (mainly, crashes were too loud).

For anyone listening, I appreciate it.  Here is another.  This is the most dramatic change overall and the most vocal forward.

I started by bypassing all FX and readjusting levels from there.

    Yeah... Floyd "The Wall" era...

Listening to the latest one (tagged vocals forward remix).

Sounding good. Good song. Sounds well produced...

I look forward to the accompanying songs, so we can hear them in context

Yeah, I'm hearing the Floyd influence too.  The vocal is kind of getting a bit lost in the wash from the synths.... maybe needs some eq to let it sit on top a little more.

Phil, regarding the vox, was the issue in this version?  https://soundcloud.com/pjchappy/long-way-back

cool tune...one suggestion...I'd update the original link and not upload links as you go along...I think you'll have better luck getting some feedback.

so yea this is very floyd like...which is fine by me...I think someone mentioned working in a change...I'd have to agree with that...

    good tune tho!!
