[Solved] X3 stopped working
I opened several project files on 2 separate hard drives and in all cases, I couldn't get them to output audio. The external insert seems 'broken', i.e. the fx return suddenly has only one option in the dropdown menu: none. So I deleted the external fx from the 2 bus fx window, still no sound. The outputs are assigned properly. Rebooted, no change. The only change has been the installation of Slate Trigger in the fx bin.

External insert (I believe) is only for use with outboard gear.

I know. It was assigned to an external compressor. It had been working well up until now.

Could there be some internal routing option in ST, that emulates a hardware insert of some sort? Do not have ST, so I cannot test. Best of luck.

Try to remove, the re - insert, just to pinpoint where the issue lies. If it is ST, or not, then we can look for a solution based on that. Best of luck.
Ps. I do not mean uninstall. Just remove from bus to see what happens.

I don't think so. If nobody here has a solution I'll have to call Sweetwater tech support in the morning (closed for the night) and see if they can sort it out. One of their techs helped me install it.

ST isn't in any bus; it's only in audio fx/ VST2. I should have said bus or track. The rest is still valid, I think. As mentioned earlier. It is easier to help you, if you try some of the things recommended here. Anyway, best of luck.

Create a Restore Point then go back to before the Slate Trigger install.
If everything works fine, then there's your answer.

Thanks, that worked. But the answer is the same; Sweetwater tech has to sort it out  Looking at an existing recent project, the external return insert showed "none" which is not what it was saved at, but the dropdown menu allowed it to be assigned to the full range of existing inputs.

Hi all. I'm having quite a bit of trouble trying to add external inserts. I'm using X3 but I haven't been able to find options to add external inserts anywhere in the software. I've read the documentation on the cakewalk site that says the external insert option can be found in the drop down menu from the FX bin, but every time I try this it's not there. Any suggestions? Are external inserts only available in more advanced versions of X3? Is there something in preferences that needs to be enabled?

The External Insert plug-in is bundled with X3 Studio and Producer.
