Is There A Way To Have MIDI Patterns Follow A Chord Sequence?

Hello Everyone,

I'm unsure if somehow the following is possible:
 
I have a lot of complex MIDI patterns that control software and hardware synths.   Is there any easy way to have these riffs follow the chord pattern of the song without having to copy the riff to each bar and manually move the notes up and down to create the new chord?
 
I can do it if I use a step-sequencer inside a synth, obviously I just hold down different chords and let the step sequencer do its thing... I'm looking for this SAME functionality inside of Sonar somehow... not sure how.
 
I wish there was a way to basically have a riff that will basically keep playing the riff, but changing chords maybe as you just hold down the chords or dragging them out, but somehow they know the chord in each bar and adjust the notes automatically.

    There are really complex arpeggiators that can do that.
    An arpeggiator strum notes from what keys are pressed.
     
    And you can combine arpeggiator patterns to make up what you want.
    You can use certain keys to switch patterns or arpeggiators etc.
     
    Is this for live use, or?
    If for recording, I wonder if it's worth the trouble.

    I do believe that using Kirnu Cream would help you with this, there's a fully functional demo you can try, and also a LE version on the computer music plugin suite. It's technically an arpeggiator but can just as well be used as a step sequencer.

    Hmmm, i wonder though if Kirnu Cream can somehow import notes already played in Sonar.  I will check it out!  thx

    That's exactly how it works. You send a midi track into cream, then cream sends midi to as many instruments as needed, and the full version has 4 different instances in a single window that you can send to specific midi channels. It's neat stuff, powerful addition to any daw imo.
