Do any of you still use External Insert, or have you forgotten about it?

I'm having quite a bit of trouble trying to add external inserts. I'm using X3 but I haven't been able to find options to add external inserts anywhere in the software. I've read the documentation on the cakewalk site that says the external insert option can be found in the drop down menu from the FX bin, but every time I try this it's not there. Any suggestions? Are external inserts only available in more advanced versions of X3? Is there something in preferences that needs to be enabled?

What version of Sonar X3 are you using?
 
If you are not using Sonar X3 Studio or X3 Producer, you will not see External Insert as an option to select.

I've been struggling with this forever, I have a APHEX 107, I just can't seem to get it all working. I have set up a bus for the APHEX, it appears as through it's patched thru properly in sonar. The only thing that is I see or hear is just a delay. So the patch is not compensating for the latency and the signal is not getting processed. I've tried to use the insert on the master bus and as a separate effects bus. I'm using a Behringer X32 as my interface
