Android App DAW

If you are into electronica and related stuff, I bought FL Studio (about $20) for my Samsung Tablet when I am travelling. It's hardly a full DAW but works, is stable, etc and loads of fun to play with when I am away without access to my DAW. Android is prone to a lot of latency issues that make this sort of APP slower to develop relative to iPad/iPhone for which there are plenty more to choose.

If you have a Samsung device, and you are on Lollipop, you may want to check out Soundcamp.  I have only toyed with it, hoping it was similar to GarageBand, but latency is certainly something which is addressed.

I have a Google Nexus 10 tablet, made by Samsung, running Lollipop 5.1. It is not compatible with Soundcamp.
 
One recommendation I would make is to NOT pick a free app. Why? Free apps are either ad-supported or have severely restricted functionality. I don't think you want your Android DAW to be serving ads while you're trying to record. In a try-before-buy situation, not a big problem.
 
I'd take a look at either the Audio Evolution Mobile DAW or the n-Track Studio Multitrack DAW (http://en.ntrack.com/andr..multitrack-studio.php). Many of the others are loopers, not really live recorders.

I guess a better way to phrase the question is what specs do I look for in a Android DAW.
I presume if it needs create at least 16 WAV files for Sonar to import them. Any other formatting specs I should look for?
 
I don't think latency is not and issue, cus I plan to only use it to create the initial live mix and transfer the files to my studio PC for overdubs etc.  The tablet is an Acer. I agree cheap is better than free. I will post my findings when I things loaded and running.

a bit off topic ... but why don't you get yourself a windows tablet? you could use a full fledged Sonar with all features, don't have to worry about stability and could transfer projects directly between tablet DAW and regular DAW ... that's what I do and I love it - workflow is key :-)

So, If I end up buying a new laptop or windows tablet to do my mobile recording, it does make sense to use Sonar for ease of transfer to my Sonarx3 in the studio.   What is the cheapest Sonar product that can input at least 16 audio tracks via usb.

I bought the Audio Evolution DAW, primarily because the developers: a) have developed their own hardware-level I/O driver and b) the devs own PreSonus AudioBox 22VSL and 1818VSL i/fs and have validated the 44VSL (which I own and am replacing with a Tascam US16x8 for SONAR).
 
The Audio Evolution driver requires a Class-Compliant interface, so no device driver required.
 
My new Tascam i/f will be here tomorrow, so it may be sometime Thursday or Friday (June 11-12) before I can test the AE DAW and audio driver with my 44VSL and my Nexus 10 tablet.
 
One other thing...AE's in-app purchases.
 
In many cases, an app will be useless to barely usable without a bunch of in-app purchases. I think the AE devs have done a really good job of segmenting the cost of the app. The DAW itself is US$6.99. The custom audio driver is US$6.71. If you have a MIDI keyboard that you want to connect and play as a virtual instrument, that'll cost you another $7. Then you can add soundsets.
 
I have a MIDI keyboard, but it's not leaving my home studio, so I have no need for a mobile interface to it. $6.71 I don't need to spend, but would have had to if the app was just full-priced, all extensions installed and enabled. So, for me, the segmented pricing worked.

Go to the Google Play Store and search on the Audio Evolution Mobile DAW. Look for that developer's app called "USB Audio Recorder PRO". Select "Read More" and then follow the link for tested devices and more info. There are a couple of tables near the bottom that list working and non-working tablets. There are Acers in both lists. The ones listed as non-working don't support USB Host Mode. There is also some discussion about the required USB OTG cable.
 
May give you some insight into why n-Track isn't working (yet?) on your tablet.

Correct me if I am wrong, USB Audio Recorder PRO is a stand alone and does not need, Audio Evolution Mobile DAW?

I finally got an answer form n-track why it will not run on my tablet.
" It appears there's a bug related to a system library on the Iconia One 7 used by our app. We are now working on a workaround to the issue. " 
 
I think I will demo: USB Audio Recorder PRO and Audio Evolution Mobile DAW
