Dimension Pro Discoveries
Some useful discoveries I've made about Dimension Pro: The instruments in Garritan Pocket Orchestra sound better than the real thing! They're amped up and much clearer. There are some really nice woodwinds in the expansion packs, flute, oboes, clarinet and bassoon. (I suspect they are actually Garritan instruments). There are some useful string patches under "Strings." Even tho I have Cinematic Strings, I find myself using some of them at times. I've been searching my banks for a decent recorder (the instrument, that is - an end-blown flute for those who might not know). Well, I found a patch named "wooden flute" which serves very well Finally, the saxes are really decent. Too bad they are only an alto and tenor. I would love to have a soprano and baritone too. Anyone else have any cool Dim Pro discoveries?

For many years I relied in Dimension Pro, it was my introduction to sampled instruments. I have since purchased better sampled VSTis, but still find myself going back to the well for DimPro programs that are still very usable. I still really like the low CPU hit of DimPro when sketching together songs. I used to use "RGC Jaco Bass" for many projects, because by tweaking that program I could have it boomy or thwacky, then I enjoyed the "Gibson EB5" bass sample set by Craig Anderton for a while. Another fav was "Magic Organ" . . . and many of the sequences, bass synths and pad sounds I have found very useful. The one issue I always have with DimPro is the time consumed fishing through the directories to get the "right" sound for a situation. I have other VSTi's that do that much better, though I think the new Rapture Pro update may come up with a solution to that issue ? I will have to find time to look into that further.

Plenty good stuff in DP - bought that separately in 2006 or something and still just scratched the surface is my feeling. Was worth the €250 then, and still think it was worth it. One of my favororites are strings too, the full strings 133 mb or so. So looked at Rapture Pro with some interest too - but would have liked to see some enhancedments of sound engine. http://forum.cakewalk.com/Rapture-Pro-any-enhancements-of-sound-engine-and-resample-algos-m3206885.aspx The improvement of aliasing in that thread I put there is obvious so why not make that standard built in. Rapture Pro was good strategic move, I think, but too little of improvements. About at the same time, I bought full version of Vsampler, which was excellent. And the improvements made in sound engine as last updates then was improvements and more selections for resampling algos. So having the chance to improve sound of the same library in Rapture Pro - why didn't they do it? I always use DP inside Metaplugin now, with 2xoversampling activated - so improved sound without need to run full project in 96k.

The way it handles REX files is very cool. I still use it for the EB5 patches, i suppose I have to get used to loading them in Rapture Pro... By the way, for those who use the EB5 patch set, I came up with some TH2 and ProChannel presets designed specifically for that patch set. I've sent them to Cakewalk for inclusion in a future release.

One nice thing is that you can switch Dim Pro, Rapture, and Rapture Pro to all use sample rates other than 44.1 k. Here is a link that will list the hot keys you can use to switch some things around in those programs: http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3235748 Bob Bone

don't they use the host sample rate? or are you talking about oversampling?
