SONAR X3 JERKS WHEN I MOVE MOUSE
I have recently installed Sonar X3 along with the update (Windows 8.1 64 bit). I am using Roland Octacapture for midi and audio device. I am experiencing a strange problem when I am playing back a song. If during playback I move the mouse the playback jerks (like a syncing issue) for a fraction of a second. I shall appreciate some advice to troubleshoot this issue. It is driving me nuts ! Thank you

When you say update, did you install the X3e patch?
ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

Standard advice first... Update drivers and firmware for audio interface. Also update your display driver. Run windows update. Update and scan with your antivirus. Remove any 'bonus' vapourware mouse drivers you may have. If still an issue try updating your motherboard BIOS and chipset drivers. Also try plugging your mouse into another USB port.

A lot of the time people on here say, "update your graphic card drivers" and 9 times out of 10 that is a ridiculous suggestion because it has nothing to do with the things most apps need to do, especially not audio apps. This, however, looks like the 10th time out of 10. If you do not have the proper graphics drivers, the OS may have to perform a slower operation each time you move the mouse cursor to be able to redraw the area that was under the mouse and draw the mouse in a different position. A similar story applies to the drivers for the mouse itself - most mice should work perfectly as generic USB devices but there is a chance that your mouse is somehow strange and it is requiring more CPU usage than usual to track the movement. This is sometimes the case if you have gaming mice that poll at 1000Hz or whatever - they basically have to tell your OS "hey, I've moved! Make a note of my new position" far more often than a normal cheap mouse, which takes time and interrupts other processes. Finally, try changing USB ports for the mouse and the Octacapture - perhaps they are both on the same USB hub (which might be internal) and are competing for notification bandwidth.

A few months back I had a number of "jerky" screen issues. I finally resolved them by going to Accessibility options and turning off Mouse hover activates window.
I couldn't believe the amounts of differing suggestions I was given and I literally spent weeks troubleshooting the issue on and off. I stumbled across the setting quite by accident. I had turned it on myself to test something out and forgot to turn it back off. May not be that. I'm trying to illustrate that there can be many possible causes.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I have updated all drivers and windows. The issue has significantly reduced. However, still sometimes during playback when I move the mouse there is a jerk in the song. Is there anything I can do check that my audio card is properly setup. I am using ASIO setting for Octa capture. What else can I do to ensure that my card is properly setup. Thanks

If you are not currently recording increase your interface buffer settings. The only reason to have them low is to avoid input latency when recording. If that helps reduce or eliminate the problem post you computer's system specs (you should probably do that anyway... as in your CPU, RAM, HDD speed, etc). Also if you have a lot of heavy duty effects in the project or lots of synths it could be bogging your system down. You can regain some sytem power by "Freezing" you synth tracks and tracks with effects on them. Again those are initial troubleshooting suggestions. If the problems persist and your computer is powerful enough then the more intense troubleshooting can begin (or even a call to support). Personally I think that whole "UPDATE EVERYTHING!!!!" approach is more second tier trouble shooting and can occasionally break more things than it fixes. However an operating system update does need updates for stuff if you are running Win7 drivers... particularly your interface. As far as HIDs (humam interface devices... like mice) this is why I try to only use wired mice/trackballs that aren't too fancy. Those wireless buggers can cause issues. Essentially you want to avoid distracting the system with unnecessary ANYTHING when workign with audio or video stuff. Since most people don't do that type of thing they would never notice how those little system hiccups screw things up. We do. I'd imagine hardcore gamers would too. Welcome to the forum.

All I can say is to repeat what I said about USB ports and expand on that a bit: try your audio device and/or mouse in different ports, ideally on different hubs (eg. one at the front of the computer and one at the back). If you have USB3 ports, try plugging the Octacapture into one of those. Check that you don't have a high-frequency polling gaming mouse. If your mouse is using a PS2 to USB converter, ditch that and get a native USB mouse. Make sure you don't have any background software that is doing weird things with the mouse or display drivers (including F.lux, the colour calibration software, or anything like it).
