Damn, someone just jumped under the train I was on

Whoa.

Well, whatever he was going through, I wish these people would pick a more private method of offing themselves. Sometimes these train drivers can never go back to work because they can't pull into a station without getting flashbacks and worrying that people standing at the edge are going to launch themselves onto the tracks at the last minute. Not to mention the trauma of everyone else on the train. So this guy gets to bask in the glow of survival (at least I hope he does) while another guy potentially loses his job.

Mind you I was surprised at how matter of fact the whole thing felt from my end. Think I've seen too much on the Internet.....

Well, one might assume that anyone preparing to commit suicide isn't exactly thinking 'rationally' in the first place.

Maybe, maybe not. Some people plan their suicides quite calmly in advance. Look at that Germanwings bozo. 

Not too long ago some guy on the Upper East Side jumped from his 20th floor balcony directly into the outside seating area of the Starbucks on the ground floor. The place was packed with people including parents with children, and this guy splattered himself right at their feet. He obviously didn't care who he landed on and it was a miracle that he didn't, but imagine the utter horror for those kids. You have to assume that he'd looked down from that balcony before and knew fine well what was below. 
 
I've thought about the idea that when you're staring death in the face like that, you might not care who you take out with you. But contrast people like this with pilots in stricken airplanes who know they're about to die but still do everything they can to steer the plane away from built up areas. 

Long time ago I worked in a mental institution. There was a guy who had jumped under the train twice.
On the first time he lost an arm, second time a leg. At the time I met him he had lived in the institution for twenty years.
