CAL, Split Channel To Tracks - SUCCESSFUL METHOD
CAL, Split Channel To Tracks ... working...
Example: Record a single midi track with omni channel midi data on (say) channels 1,2,3 & 4. (up to 1-16).
Note: The tradition method of using CAL prior to Cakewalk Pro-Audio 8 to 'Split Channel To Tracks' will not work in Sonar X3. It will give the message: "CAL Error 014: Value out of range From". (CAL is included in Sonar but no longer supported).
THE WORK AROUND: To 'Split Channel to tracks'
1. Save the single midi line as a Midi Format 0 [example.mid]
FILE/SAVE-AS/SAVE AS TYPE/ Midi Format 0
2. Close the project.
3. Re-open your Song project. Create a New Midi Track and Select it. Use the FILE/IMPORT/MIDI.
(Important: Create the New Midi track below all the other tracks to avoid confusion when the new midi tracks are auto-created). The new midi track you created will automatically be chosen as channel 1. In a New blank project It is not necessary to create a new midi track.
In the case of a single midi line as in example above, Sonar will import the midi and automatically separate each channel to a dedicated midi track of its own. The outcome will achieve a 'Split Channel To Tracks'.
NOTE: In the case of multiple midi lined project saved as Midi Format 0, there is no distinction between midi on channels. All channel 1's data will be merged into a single midi track and so on, therefore it is not advised.
THIS WORKS BEST WHEN WORKING WITH A SINGLE OMNI CHANNEL MIDI TRACK. (Keep CAL Alive !)
