This size & form factor works great when recording DSLR vids on a tripod.
I have the Tascam DR-70D, which looks similar, albeit a little shorter in depth (4 channel).

Too bad the slick bluetooth Control app is iOS only.
The 1K price tag might be a turnoff, particularly when 8 channels might be overkill for what this would typically be used for - a field recorder.

Most standalone digital recorders with more options are 1/3 to 1/2 the price, but the F8 is nice due to it's size.

An 8 preamp recorder with 120dB dynamic range on the AD, AND time code?   We are really into the Sound Device 788 and Sonosax territory here.  Most costing 5 to 10 times as much.

That being said, it is a Zoom.  And in the professional location recording world, the brand name is rather shunned.  This it the first product I have seen from them that might change the way people will think of the company.  It all depends on the sound quality, preamps especially, and of course, the durability on location.  I am looking forward to the reviews on it.
