All We Need- In progress
This is one I still need to hone a bit...I appreciate any ideas you might have on it. A few things I hear that are bothering me- Transitions are not sharp. I took a breath in one of my harmonies lol. https://soundcloud.com/starise/all-we-need

It's a nice song that does have a great message. I like the feel of it created with the harmonies. I didn't notice the breath in the harmony on first listen. But do you not edit breaths out during the mix? The change in the song at 1:42 seemed to me like there were 2 different songs taking place. Maybe that needs to transition smoother. I wonder if a pause between would give it better separation. Cheers.

First off, top notch vocal performance and love the guitar introduction the whole tune reminds me of Capercaillie. Didn't notice any breathing issues but there again my ears are not trained to this style of music. However, like god-z says that transition at 1:42 makes it sound like two songs are going on. Silence between the two bits could be the answer or maybe bringing the guitar from the second part in a bit earlier when the uilleann pipe sound plays the sustained note.

Hi, So what could be said appart that it's a great job. The only little restriction I would put to it is that as far as summer is coming,we are sometime asked to play live and ,to my ears, this track sounds a bit difficult to be played because there are a lot of different grooves in it , some kind of CSNY vocals ,an almost "oriental" transition towards the end and though the song is quite solid in itself ,from where I am,I miss a little bit of"red line" (fil rouge en français ). Great tune anyway.
Cheers.

Nice tune Tim, a small break as suggest above, half or even a whole bar would make this. Nice playing, well captured just a few teaks here and there will add the final polish. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Tim, For something that is "in progress," this is sounding like a finished project to my ears. I agree with you, and the other comments here that, at 1:40 ish, the transition needs "something," but I've no idea what. At 1:36, a reed pipe (I'm guessing... could be uilleann pipe without the drone) becomes slightly louder in the mix and then at 1:40 it is faded out quite rapidly, and I'm wondering if this is part of the "problem?" Going right back to 0:00, there is a gong sounding, but I can't quite hear the beater hitting it. Is that the intention? No problem really, just wondering... It's just my personal preference, but I always put 0.5 seconds of silence at the beginning of my tunes. I've tried restarting the song at 0:00 many times but it sounds like the gong sound starts a smidge after the beater hits... I could be way out here... Nice song though cheers andy

I liked it as-is Tim. I feel like the rhythm of various parts may get a little "loose" at times, but for this kind of folk/ethnic production it's fine. Nice work!

Great job, Tim. How about a one bar rest somewhere in the middle of this tune? That's all I have to contribute because this is a good song as is.

Thanks listening and for all of the great constructive criticism! I added an additional bass part and some more parts to help the song flow better. god-z- I have worked on those transitions some more to make them work more smoothly...how do you think it sounds now? biodiode- Yes it is a fairly aggressive transition there...so I have done some more with it..added some subtle things to integrate it better based on these suggestions. Thanks! Wookie- Thank you! Andy- I appreciate the comments! I did some more automation work on the parts to help them blend better. The intro is really more of a swell..so no attacks were ever present. I added a harp part to the intro and in places throughout the song for emphasis and because a celtic song should never be without a harp right :) Hopefully this fills in where once there was only a swell. Thank you! Walt- Thank you for listening and commenting! I haven't mapped out the rhythm. It is probably loose in places as you say. It stays pretty close to 97 most of the time. Lynn- Thanks for your commenting....I need to take the idea of adding more time in the middle seriously...I had thought that the remix should have made it all fit better, but I'll come at it again later to see if I can get the idea your telling me...I'm not exactly sure what I should be adding ...are you thinking some kind of a rhythm to be used as a break?

Oliver- I'm sorry I missed you. I don't know how I did....thank you. I understand what you mean...not a song to be played live. I guess if I had all the right people it would be possible :) I used a real bodhran drum and shaker in this recording but I did record it in parts as I went...probably would be a challenge to play live.

Ah, right... I wasn't sure about that, but I can hear that now, and the added harp works well, as do the transitions now. Nice work man

Love it Tim, has a has that truly authentic Celtic renaissance sound as far as the instrumentation. The vocals and harmonies are delightful.

Just had a listen, and I like it. The instrumentation (as always) sounds great, love the folksy/acoustic feel. And your vocals come across nicely. The first transition seems to work well (as noted on SC), and the part around 2:55 sort reminded me of old Zeppelin.

cool tune.. i love all the stringed instrument sounds..... this could almost go in a zeppelin acoustic direction... the vox sound like they are stereo, or rather, everything hard panned, is there a centered vox? also, a trick to suggest if you are trying to tighten up harmonies.... automate all the vox tracks with envelopes (you probably already have), and choose ONE to be the main vox (centered, stereo fx are fine) and at the end of each harmonized phrase, let the one main vox line extend to the end, but drop the faders off severely on all other backing vox tracks just short of where the main vox finishes it's line. that way you never hear a 'double' fade out that isn't in time, the backing tracks will disappear at the last second, but the main vox finishes the 'held note' or last sung note. if you get the timing of this down, it is almost invisible to everyone but the most astute listener.
