    Some of what's new

They include for owners of Pro Tools 12 native:
    • 128 audio tracks
    • 512 instrument tracks
    • Input monitoring
    • Copy to send feature for fast set-up of headphone mixes
    • Native support for HEAT when used with HD licence
    • Solo tracks in PFL or AFL
Some of these things were unexpected and it may be Avid's way of calming down the dissent amongst those who put out for Pro Tools 12 (some months ago in many cases) but not see the promised track freeze and cloud collaboration features.
Only time will tell, but to see input monitoring on Pro Tools at last will see some heave a sigh of relief - enough to get them to upgrade to Pro Tools, who knows?
Registered Pro Tools 12 users should see the download in their Avid account.

Don't trust the Application Manager..it was in my account, but the App Man
didn't say anything about an update...even after refreshing...

There's a limit on number of tracks?  I thought it was supposed to be professional software...

PT non-HD has always had a track limit.  How many tracks do you "actually" need.
Infinite is ridiculous...64 tracks is usually sufficient for just about anything...except
orchestration where you want to capture "each" instrument.

Even Samplitude Pro is limited to 999, which is COMPLETELY ridiculous...

I don't know about you, but most of my projects don't usually go over 50 tracks, and
that's with all the aspects of Drum Mic'ing.

On a non-Hardware (UAD, SoundGrid, Digigrid, etc) assisted system you'd be hard pressed to run more then that with plugins...I think my largest has been about 48 tracks...

Not that it doesn't happen...many people go over the 50 mark...but not by much...and that's
a whole lot of tracks...if you've recorded 128 tracks you've lost your marbles...

Remember the good ole' days where sometimes 3 people would have to be on the board during
mixdown, each doing their part...those were the days my friend...it took REAL talent to get a good
    mix...no automation...just animation, coordination, and innovation...from humans...not machines...
and then there were the Tape guys...they were geniuses doing what they did...splice and dice...

And the EMI guys at Abbey Road....THEY were the real geniuses...

    REAL TALENT!  They did WORK!

I'm interested to see how the input monitoring is accomplished in the vanilla version. Is it an AutoMute sort of thing silimilar to how Sonar accomplishes the same task? That would be perfectly fine for me because I don't usually monitor effects on a live mic input.

I've been using a third party app called AutoMute and that it does but it plays havoc on my midi input count.

I won't touch PT12 native till I know for sure.

Dave Modisette ... rocks a Purrrfect Audio Studio Pro rig.
