Sonar Artist or Music Creator 7

Hi there I'm new to cakewalk products, I mostly use this type of software to make music,, I'm contemplating buying either sonar artist or MC7, which should server me as an entry into more complex DAWs, for the moment I'm using MuLab.
Sonar has many nice new features like mix recall, which i guess MC7 doesnt, plus i like the subscription model frankly, keeps you up-to-date.
One thing that MC7 has that i thought Sonar Artist didn't offer in any way was MixStrip, mixstrip seems really cool overall, from what i saw, and its like a lower end "prochannel" i guess, at first I thought Sonar artist might a step down from MC7 due to that, but then i realized that with sonar in generall you can also chain all sorts of effect per track, and edit them, plus the effects that come with artist seem more elaborate than what mc7 offer. So i guess Sonar Artist is a step up from mc7 and not the other way around, correct?
Can anyone please comment on that, and the real world differences? Like how would i add dirt(saturation) to a track using, Sonar artist, which effect offers that? I saw ones for reverb and spacial/many others on the list, but from the comparison sheet you can't really tell what each of them truly offers.

Thanks anyhow, please note that I'm new to this and feel free to make any type of informative comment.

Also would anyone recommend buying at the cakewalk store, over buying on steam?

What's your setup like? What kind of projects are you trying to record. Let us know a little more and we can recommend. Quick reaction would be that SONAR Artist probably gives you the most bang for the buck. But would love to hear more about what kind of recording you are doing.

Also, you actually get to keep everything in SONAR when you purchase upfront plus the 12 additional months. So it's not like subscription although has some of the positives of the rolling update process.
