[Answered by fixing 12 string take]How to turn a 6 string take into a 12 string take?

I'm flummoxed again. Our 12 string take had some mud on the bottom, like his eq was out of whack on his guitar. I have a perfectly good  string take I cloned, and am ready to do the magic, but I'm stumped again. Looks like Dimension Pro could do it, but I'll need to take a class first. I though it would be akin to an IR type thing but. My guy is going out of town tomorrow and I'm trying to get a decent mixdown for him to critique this weekend. Maybe I could double it an octave higher in Nectar?

Why not fix the EQ problem? Is it really that bad?

I'll give it a shot, but I assumed since it is the guitar eq that is jacked it's toast. Y'know, garbage in, garbage out?

It turns out there was an issue with the input. After recording I usually set the inputs to none as a precaution. I did not do it to that track and for some reason it was imparting a nasty bottom end noise. I change it to none and we're good to go. I should have known something was fishy on my end since it sounded fine while tracking. The weird thing is, i can't duplicate now that it's gone............

Do you have input echo enabled on that track?

Not now, I suppose I could have bumped it on the way to set input to none, but it wasn't the last trackwe recorded so can't tell you for sure. All I know is it sounded bad, I asked a question and now it works.....

I find 12-strings (real and virtual) very hard to place in a track.  Arpeggios and leads are no problem, but I can't seem to make a strummed 12-string sound good.  It always sounds harsh and like it has unwanted comb filtering.  I think it is a complex instrument.

What I did when we were at 80 bpm, I cloned the 6 string and panned each at 45. Then I had a 12 string right down the middle. I'm not sure if that is how it will end up, but so far I like it. I should mention we sped up to 90 bpm, re-recorded everything, and it's sounding real good.

It seemed to me that without the 12 string down the middle, the rhythm guitars had no focus. I had the 12 string vol down a touch lower , and I really like the results. I sometimes worry tho, that I may be overproducing a bit?
