[CWBRN-33996] Independent Piano Roll Snap issue

Often I use snap at the Track View, and don't use it in PRV. And every time I open PRV, it ignores "Independent Piano Roll Snap" "snap off" setting and use global snap setting instead, even if Independent Piano Roll Snap settings are shown right. If I just switch it on and off, it doesn't help. The only way I found to set independent PRV snap off again is to switch it on, draw some notes, and switch it off again, only after that it is truly switched off.
Reproduce: set global snap on (better set smart grid off), create midi track, open Piano Roll View, set Independent PRV snap off (not entire option, just snap, it's a bit confusing), close PRV window, open it again. Try draw notes - global snap is working.

Confirmed. Looks like it's better not to close the PRV. Let's just collapse the view by hitting D until the bug is fixed (edit: Hitting D to close the view only works when it's docked to the MultiDock).

FWIW, I can't reproduce this issue with global snap at 1/4, and PRV snap at 1/8 or 1/16. If PRV snap is disabled when I close the PRV, the global value continues to pertain after opening a new PRV.

Why it continues to pertain? Snap should be off in PRV after reopening.

Global snap always pertains "globally" (i.e. including in the PRV), unless it is also disabled. PRV snap is set up to override global snap but has no effect one way or the other if it's off.

No, it does not. There is two options for Independent Snap. It can be totally disabled, and it is the case when Global snap works instead. But other option is that Idependent Snap is enabled, but set to "snap off", and in this case snap should be off in PRV even if global snap is on. You could check that it works, if you enable PRV snap, draw some notes, and then disable it. Snap will be off in PRV after that, even if it is globally on. And it is desired behavior.

I'm not sure what you mean by "snap off"; do you mean the PRV grid is active, but the mode buttons are all disabled? If so, I think the behavior you are wanting to see is actually the bug. I reported a while ago that disabling all snap modes in the PRV should disable PRV snap and collapse the module. This is how it worked in X3, and would be consistent with the Ref. Guide:

"The Piano Roll view always obeys the global Snap to Grid on/off setting, even if you specify an independent snap
resolution in the Piano Roll view. The Snap settings in the Piano Roll view only apply to the snap resolution, not
whether Snap to Grid is on or off."

The only way you should be able to get no snap in the PRV is by disabling global snap.

Oh, i see, thank you. It is very sad, because it has totally no sense. But i can't understand, what PRV Snap On/Off button should do in this case? It seems that software designers are confused in this.

Looks like either the Snap module drop-down or the reference guide is broken. Only CW knows which. Let's wait for their reply to your ticket.

You can see the correct behavior in X3. There, the snap module folds up and the grid button goes gray as when you disable all the mode buttons. This is also consistent with the Ref. Guide:

"If you do not select any Piano Roll snap settings within 5 seconds, the snap controls will hide automatically
until you click the Snap to Grid button again.

Not working like that here in SPlat Foxboro.

    1. Create a new project.
    2. Insert a MIDI track.
    3. Hit ALT+3 to open the PRV. For some reason the Snap to Grid button is already enabled (lit in blue) and the three snap controls to its left are visible too.
    4. Disable the button to collapse the three snap controls.
    5. Re-enable the button and wait for more than 5 seconds.

    Expected:
The snap controls will hide automatically.

    Actual:
    Nothing happens.

I don't think it is correct behavior, no matter how it works in X3, or what help says. I believe it is conceptually wrong. It just shrinks important functionality. Why do you want it works like that? You can just disable Independent Snap if you need that behavior.

Yes, as I said, this was last working in X3.
