Anyone using Wivi Band VSTi

I've had my eye on the Wivi band for a while, hoping they'd finally release a demo version of it. The audio clips from it sound duff, but stuff from their engine sounds good, so I thinking the simple examples are just too simple. As a midi wind control player I should be able to get some good expression out of them, and sit them in among my real wind instruments.

What I am wondering and can't seem to see is; if I play a chord, will it automatically assign a chosen instrument to the bottom, then lower mid, upper mid and high, or do I have to enter each line individually?

I've been using it for about a year and a half now.

    The good
-Low CPU and almost no RAM usage
    - Amazingly responsive.
    - Easy to use. No keyswitches
    - Very malleable sound.

    The bad
    - You have to know how to mix it
    - it can often be too dynamic
    - no preset system(it needs one)
    - phasing if you use too many voices
    - The upgrade path is ridiculous
    - the legato isn't great

Overall I think it's great. I like the sound, but of course that is subjective. It's technically a synth so it's bone dry. The good thing is you can shape the sound and use it for jazz, classical, funk, etc. Of course the downside is, you have to set the reverb yourself(more difficult than I imagined) and also many times you need to compress it and eq out the highs, especially on trumpets.

As for playing chords, it has an auto division function. If you set Wiviband to 4 trumpets and play a C chord, it will divide the 4 trumpets so each plays 1 note of the chord(top note doubled). However you can only load one instrument at a time, so you can't play a horn section chord. Actually if you loaded multiple instances and limited the key ranges you might be able to play a full section like that.

Anyway, I think it's a great deal. It works like you'd expect and it sounds good. I wish there was a price drop on the upgrades. I'd happily buy some of their other products but they're too expensive. It's a shame because I like Wiviband so much I'd gladly upgrade to the full version if the price was more reasonable.

Cool, thanks for the reply. I guess I was kind of hoping there was a setting that set channel one to root, and the channel two to the next note up and so on. Rather than messing around with key ranges. Or that it would simply look at where the insturments ranges sat and automaticially play bass instruments to the root and soprano instrument to the top note with the rest falling between.

They have a demo of their bigger package, but it's just too big. I don't don't want todip my toe in that water in case it's too tempting to dive in.

The small footprint appeals with this instrument, and the sound cane seem really passable, especially when blended in with other sounds from what I can tell. There is a guy called Tony Osinato who creates wonder stuff with WIVI and a couple of sample based insturments. His approach blows me away. Sets it up so a sngle not plays complex rich chord voicings.

By the way, do you trigger from a keyboard or Wind Controller?
