v-vocal
I switched a new computer, i re downloaded my sonar platinum. On my previous computer i had serveral older versions of sonar installed so i stil had v-vocal carried over and its in a few of my projects. I did transfer everything on my old hard drive to the new one and i did re install sonar and it scanned for VSTs. However i cannot find v-vocal. I did find the v-vocal file and copied it into Sonars VST folder but it just isn't picking up. Am i going to have to re install an older version of sonar to get it back?

V-Vocal is not a VST plug-in, it is a DirectX plug-in. The usual way to install old plug-ins regardless of format is with an advanced install of an older version of SONAR which included the plug-ins. V-Vocal is not a separate selection in the custom pick list. It is installed with the SONARPDR.exe. I suppose you could try copying the VVocal folder from the old machine to the Shared DXi folder on the new machine and use regsvr32 to register the cronus.dll but I would recommend the traditional method of an advanced install of SONAR.

Thanx scook, i tried the copy and paste method for the folder, ill prolly just ravage my place and find the discs to install.

I totally forgot that X1 was still roland at the time lol, I thought i was going to have to order replacement discs for 8.5 . i reinstalled X1 and V-vocal came back to me :). Not that i dont like melodyne, im just used to v-vocal and i still need to upgrade my melodyne, essential just doesnt do everything i want like v-vocal does lol

Did installing the older version of Sonar cause any other problems?
I am just interested, as it is a frequent topic on here. Some warn of the older installation overwriting newer libraries, etc. Others don't seem to worry.
Anyhow, glad you got VVocal back. I used to use it a lot, and got comfortable with its design/use. I have now switched over completely to Melodyne - I highly recommend upgrading to Editor - it is a remarkable piece of kit.

Thank you JB, Melodyne editor 2 was next on my list, i just purchased Ozone 6 couple days ago.. if you dont own it or havent used it yet... I like it alot so far, great program. In a month or 2 i was planning on Melodyne E2. As far as installing older verison of Sonar x1, i so far havent had any problem overwriting anything from X3 and platinum. On my older computer before i built this one, I had sonar 8.5.3, x1, x3 and platinum all installed (im kind of a hoarder on programs) and i never had one issue with it being confused on directories or anything. This time when i opened platinum it did give an error, bout something like plugin being read in the wrong location, but platinum corrected itself. I've yet to have another error and all my projects open perfect, nothing missing. All my effects exactly as they were. Also on Melodyne Editor, would u say it gives u more flexibility and options when it comes to vocal editing, pitch correcting etc...? Than that of V-vocal?

I went back and reinstalled X1/X2 after an initial program load and did not notice any issues. To be on the safe side I reinstalled Platinum overtop of that (I forgot to check if anything shared got overwritten).

^^^ as with mettelus, when i transferred from one hard drive to another i actually had a look at the files. each Program had its own folder inside of Cakewalk in its individual part. Didn't seem like anything was really overwritten. Each version seemed to have all its own stuff.

Ryan, other than missing the pencil tool, Melodyne editor is quite capable of doing just about anything VV can do. Once you get used to the pitch drift tool and the pitch modulation tool, you may not miss the pencil tool. If you're dealing with polyphonic material, Melodyne is in a league of its own.
