How do I print a list of SOnar files in a directory
In the days of DOS this was easy, now I have no idea how to print a list of directory content. I'm wanting to list all my Sonar files in each of their directories before the WIN 10 update.
Regards, John I want to make it clear that I am an Eedjit. I have no direct, or indirect, knowledge of business, the music industry, forum threads or the meaning of life. I know about amps. WIN 10 Pro X64, I7-3770k 16 gigs, ASUS Z77 pro, AMD 7950 3 gig, Steinberg UR44, A-Pro 500, Sonar Platinum, KRK Rokit 6

Hmm... maybe you could do the same thing via the command prompt. Isn't that kind of a way to see the OS/system in all its old school texty glory and/or get all DOS on your system's butt? I really have no idea because text based interaction is before my time. I just know there is some kind of old timey backdoor via the Command/DOS prompt option. Might be able to view and print from there. Edit: Just went to Start > Accessories > Command Prompt and up popped a DOS looking window waiting for me to tell it something. I'm assuming that's what you want. Better than trying to figure out the stupidity that is Windows Explorer. I have never seen a "Print" option in those windows.

Back in the day you could get a directory listing and redirect it to the printer. There's no command there now. I may have to consult Microsoft.

I still use CMD for this. (Start -> Run... -> CMD -> dir/s/b > list.txt) [Edit: Just noticed that I put in a pipe "|" instead of directing the output to a file ">" - This should work fine now, just used it last night!]

For Win 7 you need to run a mod that will add the print directory listing command to the directory pop up. There's a windows help file that describes the process or you can run a program called FixIt that will modify the registry to add this command. I'll try your suggestion Craig, thanks for the tip.

Open the directory in your browser. For example file:///C:/ will open the root directory otherwise I use DOS commands to create a text file and print it: dir /s/b > list.txt

That's what I use.... Karen Kenworthy provided us with some very useful tools - starting back in her days with Winmag (maybe earlier). Replicator is still the best (and fastest) pure backup tool I have ever used - and still use. A google search for "Karen's Power Tools" should reveal what is available.

Hi, Sometimes even easier ... is to use the Windows' SNIPPING TOOL and take a screenshot, which you can copy to Word, or Paint and then print easily enough. Do make sure you PREVIEW it, as you might have to re-size it on occasion if you do a big one.

If you use the windows help service they will give you a walk through that gives you a print directory option for every folder. Right click on any of the Sonar folders and select print directory. It's really useful to have.
