A minor Korg nanokontrol2 problem with Sonar X3.

Hello All,

I installed the nanokontrol2 with Sonar X3 as directed by the installation instructions.

Everything works as it should.....except that on the first Sonar track the Korg Record button from Control group one does not activate the corresponding button is Sonar.

Everything else works perfectly.....so I presumed this to be a fault in the nanokontrol2 group 1 record button. I went back to the store and exchanged the nanokontrol2 for a new one.

I installed that and I have exactly the same problem. I can live with it as it is only one button but I am curious to know if anyone has any clue as to what may be happening.

Regards,
John

Most probably not the case, but... Are you sure that your first track is really recordable? I mean can you press record button with mouse?

    You can:
    1) install my plug-in (see the signature), add it to Control Surfaces and attach nanokontrol2 to it, open plug-in Property Page (from Utilities menu) and watch "Last MIDI event" when pressing different buttons. Do you see some signal coming? How far is it different from messages sent by another buttons?
    2) without any control surface plug-in in configuration, record MIDI track with nanokontrol2 as the input. Check the same information in the event list

If everything looks normal, which Sonar Control Surface plug-in you use for nonokontrol2?

Also, check the Korg Kontrol Editor and make sure the correct profile is set up. The important thing is pressing the right buttons when you connect it to the USB port so it is working for Sonar. You need to do that every time you connect.

    SONAR
    1. While pressing and holding down the SET MARKER and REC buttons, connect the USB cable from your computer to the nanoKONTROL2.
    2. Open the “MIDI device” window in SONAR, then select nanoKONTROL2 for “Input” and “Output.”
    3. Open the “Controllers/Surfaces” window, then select “Mackie Control” for “Control Surface.”
    4. Select nanoKONTROL2 for the MIDI In/Out ports used.

Hi, and thank you for your replies.

Are you sure that your first track is really recordable?
Yes it is. In fact if I activate record button on said track the corresponding button lights on the Korg.

Also, check the Korg Kontrol Editor and make sure the correct profile is set up.
Yes I have installed it as per the instructions and while pressing the correct buttons. But thank you for asking.

    All the Best,

I assume from your OP that the solo and mute buttons and the fader on the first group work fine.  I use the nanoKONTROL2 as well and I have not had this issue.  Maybe, just as a test, use the TRACK arrow on the nano to change the tracks that it is controlling and see if the same behavior occurs when the first group on the nano is controlling a different track.  It might at least help narrow down where you are looking for the problem.

Hi Ron and thanks for your input.

I assume from your OP that the solo and mute buttons and the fader on the first group work fine.
    Yes that's right.

Maybe, just as a test, use the TRACK arrow on the nano to change the tracks that it is controlling and see if the same behavior occurs when the first group on the nano is controlling a different track.  It might at least help narrow down where you are looking for the problem.
Yes I did that already and the same behaviour occurs on the track designated as 1.
