Problems with IK Multimedia SampleTank 3

Hi,

Wondering if anybody else is having problems using IK Multimedia SampleTank 3 (ST3), or if it’s just me.

The problem seems to happen primarily when trying to record “Loops”, but has also happened when recording instruments like piano.  (To be clear, here’s an example of a loop:  Loops / Acoustic Drums / Processed Loops / Funk-Rock 7 Fatboy 93 bpm)

Basically, I can’t even use the ST3 version, cuz the keys stick, even though I have “Latch Audio Loops” turned off.  That is, if I press one of the appropriate keys on my MIDI controller, the corresponding key on the graphic user interface stays red, and the loop just keeps looping ad infinitum.  I can get it to unstick if I click on the key with my mouse.

If I replace ST3 with ST2, the keys no longer stick, and I can then use the MIDI controller to at least play along with existing tracks.

However, when I go to record, I’ll hit a key on my MIDI controller, and it will either fail to launch the loop, or launch it with an obvious delay.

The next “note” I try to record may launch the loop in synch with where it’s intended to start, but the next one will then be off.  This continues, with some notes working, and most of the others not.
If I then go back and play it, the recorded notes behave similarly – either not playing at all, or starting late.
Sometimes I can tweak the position of the notes in Piano Roll mode, and get some of them to play correctly.  Others times not.

I’ve contacted IK Multimedia several times, and they don’t seem to be interested in trying to debug the problem.  Makes me wonder if they know it’s a bug, but can’t easily fix it???

It fails with both of my MIDI controllers.
I don’t have this problem with any of my other virtual synths.

Any and all comments greatly appreciated.

I don't know if this will help but I had an issue with Sonar X3 64-bit. I was getting stuck notes (not in loops) or notes not playing...It would all work fine the first play of the song then not work thereafter.

I found no solutions anywhere until I came across a very small buried item in an IK forum.... it said the VST3 version of ST3 does not work in Sonar X3....
It suggested changing to the VST 2 driver....I did and everything worked after that. It was a hassle getting the VST2 driver to been seen in Sonar's driver list....

The forum seemed to imply that nothing was going to be done to remedy this issue.

    I hope this helps....

    Mark,

    Thanks for the info!

I'm assuming I can get the VST 2 driver on the IK Multimedia website?

Also, where do you save the driver file?  And how were you actually able to get Sonar to see it?

    Thanks a ton!

Your VST2 file should've been installed along with the VST3 file...just to a different location. Look in c:program files\vst or c:program files\cakewalk\vst. Your VST3 file should be in c:program files\common files\vst. Make a copy of it and save it to another location...then...when you're sure you a safe copy...delete it from the common files\vst folder...then open Sonar and make sure the vst2 folder where your ST3 VST2 is located is in Sonars scan path...then have Sonar do a manual scan. HTH.

Since you seem a bit unsure about vst files. Read the Sonar help files...Google vsts in Sonar...and check YouTube for help vids.

Where you come from is gone...where you thought you were goin to weren't never there...and where you are ain't no good unless you can get away from it.

Like Yorolpal said...it comes with the installer. I also downloaded the latest version 3.5.1.

I think originally I didn't install the VST2 driver. I wasn't anticipating an issue. I remember that besides the notes sticking and /or not playing it would also knock my OctaCapture off line and I would have to reboot to get it back....

Sorry, it's been a while since I went through this... I remember it took a few tries/reboots before Sonar could see it.
