mudgel So if members and forum hosts aren't familiar with what's in the current lot of sticks why should we have an expectation that new users will read the sticky before posting.
Maybe our access should be suspended each year until we pass re-certification exams
That's why I think the document that exists is adequate for purpose. It's pretty clear from the many first and early posts I have read and contributed too that most if not all failed to give any evidence that they'd read the Cakewalk Product Handbook. Could placing the sticky higher up help. I doubt that even surrounding it with flashing lights would draw people to it any more. I think the way the questions get handled is OK. I read manuals when I want to get info others come to the forum. That's just the way it is.
That was a cool think about newsgroup FAQs ... repost every week. It goes to the top and fades instead of getting ignored because it's obnoxious

Mike you are probably right. It may get ignored. It still needed to be posted. Now we can refer new members to it as something they should read.

Wouldn't the appropriate protocol be to refer new users to the official document? The Cakewalk Product Handbook. Now that I'm more familiar with its purpose and contents that's where I'll be referring people.

As I wrote in post #2 " Please throw this into the code of conduct thread (rename it to be more clear, this thread's subject title would be better)." That got overlooked. Instead John and I got locked into a conversation about something I never said (" I'm assuming when you say "stick it in your signature" you're telling the new member to do that"), which I clarified immediately in #8 (" If you don't want to do it fair enough")... missed again... I guess it's just me as CharlyG says... I end up discussing what everybody assumes I am discussing (but not writing), as opposed to discussing what I am actually writing! Apologies for my frustrations... (Edited sorry)

This thread is a waste of space. Everything about it is already included in stickies. Must be a really slow day.

Obviously I don't think so John. I posted this a long time ago and it did become a sticky. I updated it and added a couple things but its essentially the same thing. At that time CW also thought it was a useful post. I'm not understanding the objections. Keep in mind its really not for the long time members. They already know all this stuff.

At this point, if new members actually read this thread they likely won't stick around long
