The Wrecking Crew Documentary

Anyone seen this yet? If not - I can highly recommend it.
 
It's a project headed up by Denny Tedesco, son of Tommy Tedesco, guitarist in this famous crew of 1960's LA session men who played on, well, everything it seems.  Prominent in the discussions are Hal Blaine, Plas Johnson, Carol Kaye, but also many inserts from Brian Wilson*, Lou Adler, Billy Strange, many others. Great anecdotes and brilliantly put together.

    Wow - good find, Susan, thanks. I have seen a few docs of (or with) Carol Kaye, but not that one.

    A good documentary and suggestion Jerry. In my early days of guitar learning I recall hearing the name Tommy Tedesco as being a great guitar player. I did not know though that he was a player on so many of the early pop/rock songs from the 60's. (Note this was before the internet was available so I could not just make a few keystrokes to learn about the guy.) Denny put together a nice synopsis of the times and the session players. It is a shame that at the time very few probably even realized what a thrilling piece of pop/rock history was occurring.

    I have heard that Carol Kaye has been critical of the Wrecking Crew concept. If true it is kind of a shame since she was such a key player. I thought this movie was very positive towards Carol. She really is amazing. The session player industry at that time appeared to be very 'male' dominated. She was able to break that mold and perform exceptionally. 
     
    Bragging time...I got involved with this documentary production through a  KickStarter program donation. Even after I donated, it took a couple years before the movie's release. Much of it was production readiness tasks, but also a lot of copyright issue settlements. So it was interesting getting a feel for what goes on behind the scenes. Bottom line though is somewhere deep in the Extras/Bonus sections of the DVD is the list of donors. Then listed under the 'Groupie' donors I got my name listed. Big deal huh? I understand. But for me it was exciting seeing my name on a major production house (Magnolia Pictures) video release.  

    Broken pencils are pointless.

    Makes one think about all the music that we heard ... and remember ... and how it came alive.
     
    Very nice all around, and kinda funny to see her so aware of music and its history. Indeed very nice. Looking up the Crew one now.

    Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!
