Piano Roll / Midi Values
Hi Everyone, I am wondering if it is possible when i am in prv and doing some midi editing if someone can help me . so basically what i need to do is this select a midi note i have drawn in previously , and when i draw the next midi note it copies the same midi cc value ( down the bottom in prv ) - basically this works with velocity, and i realise velocity is attached to the note / -when i select a midi note in prv the midi cc value darkens to the width of the note / if i copy and paste the note"" SOMETIMES"" it copies the cc data , which is what i need but i am wondering if there is a guaranteed way and a quicker way than holding CTRL/c -Ctrl/V everytime , any help is appreciated Regards

THanks In advance

Hi , not sure I understand what you mean .
I know when I select the last note in prv , and then entre a new midi note that it copies velocity and width of the note , however I have a envelope midi CC 2 opened in prv and when I draw a new note I am trying to find a way of coping that CC2 info (say value 0-127 at the bottom of prv window onto the next midi note )
So if I click a previously entered midi note in prv and below in the cc2 midi envelope the value is 67 - then when I entre the next midi note , it also changes the cc2 value to 67 below the new note and the same width as the note like it does if I copy and paste a previous midi note !
so I have created a shortcut letters A and S on my key board to copy and paste so when I select the last midi note I hit A then set my timeline and hit S , it pastes the new midi note and the cc2 value , it works . (( not all my cc2 values are the same so I want to click different values and copy those values onto the next note I draw .which is why Iam asking this ? )))
Iam wondering if there's a easier way native global tools way that this can be done without copy and pasting every time (: ,
Thanks

Hi Markus
That's exactly what I need
Tick - select controllers along with midi notes
But it is already checked and when I click any previous midi note say with a value of 24 . When I enter the new note the cc value at the bottom does not change to 24 ??
I have even tried double clicking the previous note so the cc value highlights under the note then I entre new note and still the cc value doesn't come across with the new note .
I looked at that link and tried moving a previous note horizontally and yes the cc value moves with the dragged note .
Any other suggestions

Iam wondering if someone can try the following in prv for me please
1) in piano roll insert a midi envelope at the bottom ( cc2 breath etc ) 2) entre one note in the prv 3 ) double click that note so the cc2 breath value highlights / darkens 4) raise the cc value to say 60 .
5) now enter a new note a 1 sec to the right and change the cc value of that note to 25 .
6) now make sure - select controllers with notes is selected in the controllers menu in prv
7) now select /click the first note /value 60 , then draw a new note And PLEASE TELL ME IF THE CC VALUE 60 COPIED TO THE NEW NOTE ?????????????
Really appreciate it if someone can confirm that this is not working !!!!! Thanks

Copy-Paste is the only way to reproduce a CC event, either by selecting the controller event directly or by enabling Select Controllers with Notes. There is no function when drawing in new notes to have SONAR also insert a CC event having the same value as another event that happened to be in the same time range as the previously touched/entered note. Note Draw just isn't aware of that relationship.

remember, midi cc values are time depending, not to a special note on the time. You can have midi cc without to have any note in the timeline and many notes at the same time sharing the same midi cc data. Sonar don't have note expressions like it's possible in Cubase. _Markus

Thanks everyone would be nice if they could add this in the future A) click previous note and next note copies cc value B) when you stretch any notes the cc value length stretches with it . I guess the drag horizontally the cc value with the note is fairly new so maybe in the future . All the best thanks again Regards

I omitted mentioning a key fact in my previous post: It's not necessary to resend a CC message for every new note if the value hasn't changed. The effect on any given synth of any given CC message value will persist until a different value is sent. And SONAR's Patch/Controller Searchback setting in Preferences ensures that CCs earlier in the timeline are resent on starting playback at a later point.

Totally understand and its great that sonar doesn't resend it because it would be a pain for me at a certain points in this process that i am using the cc values for , however i need to be able to change values of notes quicker than manually entering cc values for new notes ( which being able to hit a previous note with a value of 0-7 and then enter the new note with that cc value , is over time going to be quicker for me ) . The method i am using this cc values is for is switching, recording then playback and its the only way i can get all of the steps i need to work the easiest and proper for me . Regards All the best

Hi Everyone while on this subject i have another question is there a key or way of slowing the mouse pointer down when moving the CC Values up or down ??? reason i ask is if i have the Midi CC envelope shrunk to about 1 inch /25mm at the bottom of prv and need to enter say a vaule of 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 , would be nice to hold down ctrl or something to make it quicker to get to the value i need ???? Any suggestions is appreciated . Regards

Here's a trick for you: After entering all or a bunch of notes, you can copy the velocities to a CC lane, and they'll be converted to CC messages with values matching the velocities. I use this trick with Garritan synths to get CC11 Expression values that match the velocities I played. Just select all the notes, right-click in the header of the CC lane, and choose Copy Selected Values to this Lane. Regarding adjustment resolution, with many controls and settings holding Shift will give you fine control over adjustments; unfortunately it doesn't work with controller handles.
