Anyone else been banned by Harmony Central for no reason?

I signed up yesterday morning, posted a question, and a couple of hours later saw that I'd been permanently banned. Can't understand it.

    Hi,

I am not sure what this website is, but honestly?

A website that wants folks, but doesn't want them, will eventually find themselves dead and off the airwaves.

Let it go. Find a different place. If that's the way I took care of my customers in the restaurant for many years, the next morning I would be out of business. Well, we should do the same to some businesses on the Internet, so they learn some realities about life. Respect is one of them! Recklessness and maliciousness is not worthy of yours, or my attention!

    End of story!

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

I know you'd have said... but I have to ask..
Do you have history with them with a different account?
Maybe another user with a similar user name was banned and they thought you were him trying to get back on..
Maybe they IP blocked a user and you're with the same provider.
Maybe they thought you were/are a spammer.
Maybe they just don't like you..

    Hi,

Thx Karyn ... that was my next post, from the ISP side of things. I was actually putting it together.

But honestly, there are enough of this and that in the Internet ... and if Sonar doesn't do it, another DAW will ... and that's that! But a website being silly and stupid is counter productive, and not likely to survive, so yeah ... something else is going on!

    1) No history.
    2) I made up a weird name (like hyur8), but it's poss.
    3) ISP . . . could be, I suppose.
    4) Nothing at all spammy about my question.
    5) But I'm such a nice guy.

Well, we don't know what the question was you asked? Could have some bearing on the situation.

I can understand the poster's concern though assuming there was good intentions in signing up. Harmony Central has been around a long time and has lots of musical info and followers. I am just an occasional follower but if I want reviews or have a detailed guitar type question (whether theory or mechanical in nature), it is a good site to partake in. I would suggest the poster try and contact the web-admin and ask them.

    Broken pencils are pointless.

Maybe it was user error and you're not actually banned..
I could ban you from here then you could tell me if you get the same result...

A permaban is usually the last resort for repeat offenders, they should have at least sent you an email stating that you are banned, even if it didn't include a reason.

hyur8, why did you register on this forum to complain about a different one? Is it because the other one is administered by someone who is a regular contributor here? And what was the question you asked?

I don't remember it word-for-word, but it was something like, "In Ozone 5, if I set Q to 12.0 (the maximum), how wide a frequency range is affected?"

    Maybe they hate Ozone 5?

I couldn't figure out how to reach admin direct. I emailed to ask why I'd been ejected; also asked via their Twitter. No reply to either.

Not a big deal, obvs, but my attitude aligns with KenB123's: it's a resource I'd rather have available than not, and I'm baffled as to what transpired.

I only look like a brand-new Cakewalk-forum user. I'm having trouble migrating my acct, so I set up a new one to use for now. (You've helped me in the past.) I posted here to learn whether anyone might shed the light of experience on mine.

Question was as I stated above, re Ozone 5. Maybe I posted in the wrong forum. But that's not normally a hanging offense, right?

Nope, just checked, and still getting the message, "You have been permanently banned by Dendy Jarrett." Don't even know who that is.

I'll leave things there, and try to learn to live without Harmony Central. It'll be tough, but I think I can pull through.

Too bad though. I like Craig Anderton's writing a lot. Would've been nice to be able to join.

Some folks are threatened by intelligent questions. I wouldn't know, of course. I'm no threat to anyone.

I'm guessing that somebody confused you with someone else and went on a bombing mission. Whoever that other unfortunate soul might be, he'd better put some pavement between himself and the Harmony Central Department of Defense. (I said, "he", Karyn, because, you know...We have it coming.) Hyur8, hopefully, you'll be able to clear your name at some point.

If not, I suggest embracing the art of spycraft. Sure, there's the constant threat of discovery and a firing squad, but the toys are fantastic.

I've been a member there since before Scott sold it, since 1997. It went downhill over the past decade, seriously downhill. The product reviews are ridiculous, mostly written by kids who have been playing music for less than a year (or so it seems). The forum were once populated by mature musicians, for the most part. Then younger people started to pie in, not that is bad... but it usually is. Things went south. It was more fun when it was basically un-moderated in the 90s. There was a lad of crap and some bad stuff happened but there was good in it because anyone could say anything and the tolerance level was through the roof. It was like the wild west of forums. I imagine a lot of forums were like that back then, I sort of miss it but I can't communicate with 18 year olds. We speak a different language it seems.
I am surprised you got banned for nothing. If I can get in, I'll be glad to ask you about it if you want.

I used to imagine becoming a spy, then realized I can't sustain deception. Plus the being-captured-and-tortured scenario.

Dendy Jarrett sent me an email telling me that my ban may have been part of a response to a spambot attack, and I'm now reinstated. If someone on this thread helped salvage my rep, many thanks. I now have the freedom to ruin it honestly.

Sorry to learn the site's declined. I remember checking it for reviews long ago when I was first buying gear. Can't remember whether it helped, but there seemed to be a lot of knowledgeable people.

    1) No history.
    2) I made up a weird name (like hyur8), but it's poss.
    3) ISP . . . could be, I suppose.
    4) Nothing at all spammy about my question.
    5) But I'm such a nice guy.

Maybe your weird name looked randomly generated like a spambot created the account

At least he didn't use a well-known spambot name like "Bapu."

(Should mention: I'm the OP. Cakewalk helped me solve my migration mess.)

That's why my previous name lost its 5K posts and I had to start a new one ... sure ... I'll believe it when I'm 6ft under and no one gives a damn anymore!

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!
